If you don’t mind my asking, what were the time/shot placement requirements for the range portion of the renewal?

The state doesn't specify an exact scenario SOP, therefore it's pretty much up to the trainers. We have to renew every two years. This is my 5th time and the range sessions seem to differ often.

This year we were asked to simulate sweeping the scene, firing 2 shots, then resweeping the scene, repeating this process... about 6-8 times per target distance, taping up holes between target sequences. 3,5 & 7 yards. The outer lines you had to stay inside were (guessing here) about 10-12 inches wide by about 13-15 inches high.

Two years ago, the same instructer had us fire about 25 rounds, all at 5 yards. 10 years ago, during my 8hr initial class, we started at 15 yards (45'), go gigure.

usually its just 50 rounds at 3,5, and 7 yards

Commands vary as to how many to load, and you just shoot at the target.

I forget the scoring, its 1,2 and 3 points, but if you hit the body with them you will pass.

Its difficult to fail.

That’s quite a variety.

Not a one of them a bad test, it would seem.

Many thanks to both of you.

When I took the class up here, there were just five of us (it’s a small community in a small state). Three of the guys worked for the local Speer ammo plant, my old neighbor had been around weapons for 60 years, and I’d been hunting and shooting for about 35. The young instructor asked us if we felt we needed the range time, and we all said no. He said, “Good, then we can move things right along.” And he did.
