GOP will take off the gloves if Ron Paul wins Iowa
Washington Examiner ^ | 121811 | Tim Carney

The Republican presidential primary has become a bit feisty, but it will get downright ugly if Ron Paul wins the Iowa caucuses.

The principled, antiwar, Constitution-obeying, Fed-hating, libertarian Republican congressman from Texas stands firmly outside the bounds of permissible dissent as drawn by either the Republican establishment or the mainstream media. (Disclosure: Paul wrote the foreword to my 2009 book.)

But in a crowded GOP field currently led by a collapsing Newt Gingrich and an uninspiring Mitt Romney, Paul could carry the Iowa caucuses, where supporter enthusiasm has so much value.

If Paul wins, how will the media and the GOP react? Much of the media will ignore him (expect headlines like "Romney Beats out Gingrich for Second Place in Iowa"). Some in the Republican establishment and the conservative media will panic. Others will calmly move to crush him, with the full cooperation of the liberal mainstream media.

For a historical analogy, study the aftermath of Pat Buchanan's 1996

“Fred Thompson said tonight, on Hannity, speaking of Paul making a possible run as an Independent, that he has a lot of Democrat supporters. Do you know that to be true or not?”

Some say he does have some democrat’s support. I know Ronald Reagan had a lot of democrats support him.

“I think you will not find any actual quote from him to that effect. “

What? You mean Paul never said “911 was an inside job?” You have got to be kidding me. It’s all over the internet. Everyone knows he said it.

Paul is not a conservative, so liberals would support him.

" - AntiGlobalist?

What are we going to do with pres paul?

Stop all international trade and hide in our bunkers?

You know perfectly well that is not what Ron Paul has advocated.

Instead of running as fast as we can toward the brink, how about we just start dragging our feet a little?

"..he has a lot of Democrat supporters."

I shall now point out how misguided and short sighted that line of thinking is:

The young people are exploring their own position in the political world, sometimes voting for dems, sometimes for pubbies. Designer remembers when he first registered to vote, he signed up under the dem column, because that is what his parents were. After listening to the dem candidate, he chose to vote for the republican instead.

Now some of you republicans would like to vilify every young person simply because they might have been dems at one time, and you are cutting off your nose to spite your face when you verbally toss the new voters to the curb. A forward-thinking republican would welcome those new voters, and in particular because they are young, meaning that they would be republicans for a long time to come.

You go right ahead and throw them out. Me, I'm keeping them, and nurturing them, and educating them, and my state republican party thanks me for it.

Dear Designer: There are 108 Posts to this Thread last count. Now, please, point out to me one place and time where I ever indicated I was ready to throw out the youth vote and where I ever did vilify young people because they were once Democrats. As a youth, I was active in the Lyndon B. Johnson ‘64 Campaign. Your charges against me are baseless and I resent it. I’m not asking for an apology; just that you lay down the crack pipe.

My goodness D, you jump to many conclusions never mentioned.
Did someone say youth? Not that I can recall.
Did someone say young person? Not that I can recall.
This thread is about Ron Paul and his delusional and dangerous foreign policy statements.
Did you want a hug because you rejected what your parents believed and formed your own opinions?
Would you like to know that my parents were rabid dems, and was I high school I was a Goldwater Girl, because I believed conservatism was the right path. So what, that was then and this is now.
Nothing that I have just said or you wrote has anything to do with Ron Paul. Paul is supported by all age groups. He is not just supported by youth, he is however supported by people who do not actually know who he is and what he has said.
Paul has long political career, he has written much and said much, as the years go on he becomes more irrational.
Paul is supported by racist groups, anti-Semitic groups, legalize all drugs groups, isolationist groups, and they support him because his views are evolving in that line.
Does he have some good economic views worthy of discussion, sure. But his view of world events and the safety of the US negates all of that because he is delusional.

Ron Paul has the most conservative voting record in Congress. Most Conservative Voting Record Since 1937. The manner in which income taxes are construed is not Constitutional.

O good grief. Ron Paul's foreign policy is totally in line with the Founding Fathers. What is dangerous & nuts are the irresponsible bellicose statements. Furthermore: a lot of the SAME discredited rhetoric that caused us to got to war with Iraq is being recycled. Let's stop this dangerous nation building - which is the antithesis of conservative & American principles. Furthermore it's unnecessary because the average Iranians WANT a regime change & are pro west.

Nice try but not only did Ron Paul NEVER say that: he totally distanced himself from the 9/11 Truth movement much to the chagrin of the said truthers. The 9/11 Truthers in fact view Ron Paul as a controlled candidate & a traitor.

Nice try but Paul was talking about the Kennedy assassination which actually did come out as an "inside job" of sorts when E Howard Hunt issued a death bed confession.

You're wrong. He was offering to investigate 9/11 on the video.

Also, he looked like a damn nut other other night on Leno. So kiss off. Obama would beat Paul in a landslide. Man's a nut and so are his supporters.

You Paul people don't get that having nerve doesn't make you smart.

Paul is not a conservative. Really you need different sources to try and make your point about Paul.
Using a Paul statement to prove a Paul statement, well doesn’t work.
Paul received a life time rate of 83.5 from conservative.org.
Paul does even show up in the top 50 list of conservative house members from barefootandprogressive.com
Paul does not show up in the top 25 list of conservative house members from nationaljournal.com
Paul received this ranking Liberal: 31/100 and Conservative: 25/100 from thatsmycongress.com
Paul has a rating of 76% from http://heritageactionscorecard.com/scorecard/index.html#paul#name
Paul has a 94% rating from Heritage per http://www.politisite.com/2011/09/21/20-most-conservative-members-of-congress-according-to-heritage-action-score-card/

I could go on, however I am sure you get the point that Paul is no the most conservative house member since 1937, not even close.
Paul is a libertarian, its that simple.

Wow. Well, at least you are constant. Paul is not and has never been a conservative, he is a libertarian. They are not the same.
Have you ever heard of Tripoli?
I do not know what average Iranians you are talking to but it doesn’t matter the people in charge want us and Israel dead. How hard is that to understand.
Paul is wrong when he says “its just talk”, it has never been just talk.
