Newt Gingrich fights back in Iowa

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is spending $242,000 ona week’s worth of television ads in Iowa, according to a Republican media buyer, as he seeks to combat massive spending against him in the run-up to the Jan. 3 caucuses.

he money will go to 30-second spots airing from tomorrow through next Monday. The focus is on Des Moines — the average person will see the Gingrich ad ten times in a week in that market — but there will also be heavy rotation in Cedar Rapids and Sioux City with smaller buys in Davenport and the Rochester-Mason City market. Gingrich is also airing ads on Fox News, ESPN and the History Channel.

Gingrich was slow to get into the ad game, seeing his poll numbers rise for weeks on debate performances and earned media but without any paid televisision communication of his own.

Harsh negative attacks from both Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and a super PAC — known as “Restore Our Future” -- supporting former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney appear to have done damage to Gingrich in the state, however.

It will be interesting to see how fast Newt can put together a real campaign.

He’s hitting the same stride, at the same time as Reagan.

Don’t kid yourself, the libs don’t want to run against Gingrich...in a debate he would make Obama look like the affirmative action pretender he is...The Washington establishment has got to be scared.

He'd better...

Now Insider Advantage has the nutcase Wrong Paul up by 6 at 24% over Romney's 18%, and Newt has fallen way back to 13. So, apparently the PPP survey wasn't such an outlier after all. In the Insider Adv poll, Paul leads in every age demographic except 65+. Apparently their corn was hit by the wrong pesticides during growing season -- what else could explain WTH is the matter with those people out there?

OK Iowa, if we LOL heartily will you quit with the sick joke now?

The problem with running a negative, hateful ad campaign, is when the one who is being attacked, finally does a response to them. The audience is more likely to have sympathy for and will listen to the one defending themselves, by a level of 2 to one.

An effective counter ad, has far more impact on the memories of the voters, than does the initial attack ad or regular ad, selling the candidate to the voters.

Newt is way too smart for anyone to think he is finished. Especially since he still holds a big lead in all the major polls.

Question to Iowa Voter: How did you decide who to vote for?
Response: I went with whoever ran the most negative ads.

Pathetic.

It will be interesting to see how Ron Paul’s lead translates into actual votes when the time comes. I suspect his poll numbers greatly exaggerate his vote getting power.

Newt’s gonna have to pawn some of Callista’s Tiffany pieces to keep up with all the money being spent against him.
