One of the greatest gifts that America has given to the world is the idea that the leader of a nation should be chosen freely by its people. Well, perhaps the notion did not originate in America, but the Yanks certainly showed the world how to do it. More spectacularly and more originally, the United States pioneered the following novel concept: when the favor of the people transfers from one faction (as Madison called them) or party to another, then the defeated incumbent gracefully steps aside as his victorious opponent peacefully and lawfully takes his place as the new leader. Indeed, the peaceful transfer of power from the Federalists (Adams) to the Democratic-Republicans (Jefferson) in 1801 must be regarded as one of the most momentous advances in the history of human freedom.
Thus, having taught the world how to peacefully install a legitimate leader, as well as how to gracefully escort him to the exit, it was incumbent upon the American people to decide how long they wished the time span between entrance and exit to last. George Washington solved the problem. He refused to serve more than two terms -- thus setting a powerful precedent that lasted nearly a century and a half. This feature of American government became ingrained in our political DNA: presidents serve no more than two terms. And when, finally, this virtual commandment was violated by FDR, the nation ensured that there would be no repeat offense by amending the Constitution.
It is my thesis, however, that Washington set not only an upper bound, but a lower bound as well. Namely, he established a precedent that, unless there are compelling reasons not to do so, a sitting president would be re-elected to a concluding second term.

Here is something that is true but is going to be hard to swallow. If the republicans do not engage and start acting like real men (and women) that understand that America is on the edge of destruction or revolution or both... then not only will they lose... they will deserve to lose. Rush said today that the leadership does not think America is in danger and this election is just another election and obama is just another dim president. They are the source of our party's problems.
They have given us no hope... no fight back... no defense and horrible candidates that refuse to attack obama... as he attacks us every day... and the rnc has ordered them to remain mute and pu**ified. I want to win and I want to support a winner... and only Conservatism can win the day... only an unapologetic, absolutely convicted to our ideology, unafraid to attack obama like our very way of life is at stake... because it is... mad as hell candidate can win... with that candidate... we can defeat obama and win both chambers with overwhelming numbers.
What we have so far is a republican party that has raped and pillaged the TEA Party for personal gain... we have found that o’donnell and haley were lying to us during the 2008 election... and the media has painted the TEA Party as what the OWS truly is and the republican party itself has announced us DOA. boehner and mcconnell promised that they heard us... that they understood our concerns and that they were going to carry out our agenda... but they lie just like obama. They have done nothing but lie to our faces while conspiring behind closed doors with our enemies... but they do not accept that obama and the dims are their enemies... they are all in bed together and for the same end result.
Something must change and change soon or it is all over with but the crying... and their will be rivers of tears... that is assured.
