RE :”Rove says Boehner should wait until Obama flies to Hawaii (but before Jan. 1) and then pass the 2 month extension, while complaining that it's stupid and expensive.

I just got done with DVRed Cavuto and saw that interview. As lame as that sounds the handwriting spelling ‘cave’ is on the wall. Obama is on TV shopping whole Boehner is sweating and he is getting no support from FNC, a sure sign of coming doom.

ON FNC Special Report today that young blogger lady Mary Katharine Ham gave an opinion that sounded much like me talking, She said that to win a standoff like this Republicans needed to be prepping the voters with their arguments weeks and months ago not just let Obama do all the voter prepping with his arguments about how Republicans are trying to destroy the economy. These battles don’t win themselves. I am not sure WHAT Boehner is up to but it doesn't look good.

I think she is right!

Boehner has to contend with the House GOP members, and that means he can't always say what he is really thinking, nor can he make them do what is politically beneficial. I imagine it's like an old purple car I used to have with very loose steering.

Well you got some members who like us wonder why they are cutting FICA/SS taxes without cutting benefits or at least reforming SS for those getting the cuts now. Remember how Democrats beat Bush when he wanted some of the FICA money to go to a savings account? (He should have called it a middle tax cut apparently.) Now Democrats see a winner claiming they don't need that money after all for SS.

Yet it appears politically unacceptable to tell voters that :
1) SS/FICA is directly adding debt to the nation (even though this should be obvious by now).
2)All Obama’s ‘FICA tax cut’ proposals made that problem worse and didn't pay for themselves.
3) Obama is just proposing give-away after give-a-way up until election day and if he gets elected will be taxing the same people to ‘fix’ the massive deficits he has run up
4) Since last year Obama decided to use the Republican house this year and next as a foil and instead of serious proposals he just planned on campaigning for election the FULL two years trying to shift his own responsibility for the mess he created, onto them; And it seems to be working too.

So Republicans have a totally fractured position on how to handle this and Democrats are united.

I think Boehner will try to get the votes to pass the 2 month extension (in fact, Fox is announcing some kind of deal). That will be a political victory for Obama, but I think the alternative is a bigger victory for Obama (Why? Because that's the message from ABC/NBC/CBS, and the GOP has been saying "cut taxes" for so long). More important is what will be going on 11 months from now.

Sorry, I failed to respond to this point in your post.

Your argument is sound, but of all the things politics is, logic is near the bottom of the list.

RE :”I think Boehner will try to get the votes to pass the 2 month extension (in fact, Fox is announcing some kind of deal).

And on Cavuto’s show today (4 pm EST) he asked a couple of times :”Isnt this the SAME deal they just rejected and rebelled against a couple of days ago?” Like I said, ‘cave’. Now Boehner will put the Senate bill up and get Pelosi votes to help pass it.

This has the classic structure of rebellion failure much like 1995. They demand to take a stand not understanding that the other side (Obama) has been laying the political groundwork for the battle for months against them and they just assume they will win (apparently) without doing the same. And worse the House and Senate Republicans are not united on a strategy. Then not only does the MSM put on pressure but their own Senate RINOs (old pass TARP McCain) demand surrender and worse FNC abandons them (the sure sign they will lose) and those usually against Democrats heap it on too. And then they see the polls on it killing them and then they cave.

To not to put all the blame on the house, what exactly is the Senate RINO strategy now when in two months Obama re-starts calling for a tax increase on the rich to pay for the extension through his election? They have NONE!

Has anybody asked Obama, Reid or McConnell or McCain why they wanted a two-month extension in the first place?

What, exactly, was its purpose?

RE:"Has anybody asked Obama, Reid or McConnell or McCain why they wanted a two-month extension in the first place? What, exactly, was its purpose? "

In the RINO's case that is easy. To go home for Christmas as soon as possible, and it looks like they succeeded.

Boehner who looks like he was in on that same deal wins in the sense that he gets to cave and yet he let his members put up the symbolic stance only to have them beg him to give in less than a week later. So he avoids a primary challenge,

In Obama's case it should be obvious why he wants it.

The correct answers to “Who’s on first?” in the original Abbot and Costello dialog were,

“Yes.”

“That’s the man’s name.”

“That’s right.”

The correct answer to “What’s the guys name on first?” is

“No, what’s on second.”

That’s okay. It was a great routine.

It’s exhibit one in the claim that you don’t have to spend your whole comedic set focused on the groin/ass region to be funny.

Clever is 100 times as funny as shocking vulgarity.
