NEWT HELPED FORMULATE CHRISTMAS
December 21, 2011Every few years, heinous Democratic policies -- abortion, gay marriage, affirmative action, Hillarycare, Obamacare, to name a few -- compel previously uninvolved Americans to leap into politics.
This is great, except for two things: (1) We have to get heinous Democratic policies first; and (2) newcomers have short memories, sometimes no memories at all.
The second point is the only possible explanation for why some conservatives seem to view Newt Gingrich as the anti-Establishment outsider who will shake up Washington.
Newly active right-wingers would do well to spend a little more time quietly reading up on Newt's political career, and a little less time shaking their fists at some imaginary "Establishment" -- which now apparently includes Michael Savage, Mark Steyn, Christine O'Donnell, Ramesh Ponnuru, Glenn Beck and me, all of whom oppose Newt's candidacy. (By the way, guys, are we car-pooling to the next Trilateral Commission meeting? I have a thing at the World Bank that same day.)
Only then will they realize that Gingrich would be a disaster for everything they believe in.
His history of lurching from guru to guru, fad to fad and wacky pronouncement to wacky pronouncement has produced few real gains -- except for Gingrich's personal bank account.
Despite Gingrich's constant claim that he -- hand in hand with Ronald Reagan -- lassoed big government and won the Cold War, this is delusional. Newt was a freshman House member when Reagan was elected president, no more important than Rep. Bill Green, R-N.Y., who was also elected to the House in 1978.
But Gingrich recently told Sean Hannity, "I helped Ronald Reagan and Jack Kemp develop supply-side economics ..."
In Ronald Reagan's autobiography, "An American Life," he writes extensively about supply-side economics. He cites Jack Kemp several times. He never mentions Newt Gingrich.
(However, in Reagan's massive 784-page diary, Newt's name does come up -- once. On Jan. 3, 1983, Reagan wrote that he met with "a group of young Repub Congressmen," and says that one of them, "Newt Gingrich," proposed freezing federal spending at 1983 levels, which Reagan rejected out of hand because it would "cripple our defense program.") No kidding! 10 years ago, I never imagined I feel this way about Coulter.
“Mark Steyn is the only one on that list whos opinion I take seriously. Just saying.”
Not any more, for me.
Seriously. On the radio the other day, she all but whipped the Romney kneepads out of her back pocket, as she claimed that Gingrich was “only one of many” behind the Republican revolution in ‘94, but that Romney was beyond brilliant on O’Reilly, evidently because he doesn’t feel that Barack Obama would be the BEST guy to run the country for another four years.
That’s after the complained that Gingrich just said outrageous things to get attention (gee, Ann... who ELSE can I think of who used to do that before she cozied up to the dinner party crowd???).
I love Ann, but I’m convinced Bill Maher has photos of her naked.
She dated him or something.
SOMEBODY has compromising photos of her by now.
It’s the only explanation for her “Romney lust.”
How does any of this suggest Mitt Romney is more qualified to be president? Obama’s never been divorced either. Did that make him a good president?
Christine O’Donnell and Sharon Angle said some things that made them sound extremely stupid during their campaigns, and there wasn’t much evidence to counter that suggestion. Newt may say some unusual, politically incorrect things at times, but they never, ever make him sound stupid.
From what I heard on Bill Bennett’s show, Mark Steyn thinks both Newt and Mitt are too liberal. He seems to be taking the same position as Mark Levin. I would not lump Steyn in with these others. Looking for the pure 100% conservative is a noble goal. Saying that Mitt Romney is more conservative or would make a better president than Newt for any reason is lunacy and/or heresy.
speak for yourself, save for her Romney fixation she is spot on with Gingrich. With all of the FR people out there why of the first 40 posts does no one actually tackle her Gingrich assertions ? Only get posts of her weight or how she is dead to you, or other insulting assertions.
To my mind she nailed why I will not support Gingrich, and I think a few more would be offended by the claims Gingrich made regarding President Reagan and almost making it seem like he had some major part in our Presidents great accomplishments.
I assume I will get the same treatment but I will stand my moral ground and not support this man.
I don’t like Newt either. But Ann seems to think that if you don’t agree with her rino choice you’re not a conservative. And she is skinny!
Also, for most us, Newt wasn't our first choice but the media has run off our candidates with nary a word of support from the likes of Ann Coulter.
———And she is skinny!-——
Like terry, bulemic
No pingie thingie this week.
I’m not a huge Gingrich supporter, but we don’t need those on our side helping the dems/news media take down our candidiates. Anyone who does that loses credibility with me.
Mark
whats the deal ? are you anti Gingrich as Ann says?
If so I guess you dont agree with Rush ...what gives?
Im not in any camp (except the I dont want Obama camp)
Did you know that Ann dated Bill Mahar for a long time...?
No McRomney. He will “reach across the isle” just like McCain and compromise all the conservative principles. Remember when he said he was “Governor of all the peoplr of Mass”. He will sell out to Reid/Pelosi in the first month.
Wow! such low-hanging fruit right in the first sentence.
Every few years, heinous Democratic policies -- abortion, gay marriage, affirmative action, Hillarycare, Obamacare, to name a few -- compel previously conservative pundits to support Republicans with the same policies.
Newt is a moderate Republican.
“From what I heard on Bill Bennetts show, Mark Steyn thinks both Newt and Mitt are too liberal. He seems to be taking the same position as Mark Levin. I would not lump Steyn in with these others. Looking for the pure 100% conservative is a noble goal. Saying that Mitt Romney is more conservative or would make a better president than Newt for any reason is lunacy and/or heresy.”
It’s a noble goal, but it’s not going to happen because we’re stuck with the field of candidates that we HAVE. What pissed me off about Steyn is the degree of anti-Newt vitriol he was spewing the last time I heard him (no doubt we’ll get more of the same tomorrow, when he hosts for Rush) - and this at a time when Newt was pulling ahead of the pack. So, presumably, Steyn doesn’t have a crush on Romney (the way Coulter seems to)... so what’s the alternative, Mark? Or do we just cut ALL of our people off at the knees (except Romney, of course. He’s ALWAYS protected). Rush has the right attitude... any of these people (except RP) would be better than Obama, and it would be better to focus our negative attacks on HIM. Obviously, Steyn is too immature, or too taken with his own wit to see that. That’s why I don’t give him a pass.
She said almost nothing of substance about Newt. The whole thing was about how he compares himself to other popular conservatives or says he helped with some conservative movements along the way. She hasn’t caught Newt in anything out-of-line here. “Helping” is a pretty low bar but perfectly valid to state even if you were just 1 vote out of 500.
She also insulted the Tea Party just as much as Newt, if you didn’t notice. She says Clinton deserves credit for the 1994 house win and Obama for 2010. I think that’s total bullschtick. If the Tea Party didn’t work hard at moving the Republicans back to the right, they would not have won in 2010. And the same goes for 1994 when Newt and others were helping to re-Reaganize the party after Bush Sr.’s RINOization.
I also disagree that Boehner is less scary than Newt. He looks a lot like Dracula to me. Newt looks like Winnie the Pooh.
