UNITED NATIONS - The UN General Assembly granted a request from North Korea to hold a moment of silence on Thursday for Kim Jong-il, the country's former leader who died on Saturday, though Western envoys said they would boycott it.
Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, president of the 193-nation General Assembly, said the moment of silence would take place before a meeting of the assembly at 3:00 p.m. EST (2000 GMT) .

I'll bring my cymbals.
We really need a United Democratic Nations and to hell with this mob rule UN.
Any way we can expand that ‘moment of silence’ into a ‘decade of silence’, or even a ‘lifetime vow of silence’???
They will hold a moment of silence for that toad, but not for Vaclav Havel. Typical...
I like a symphony of popping champagne corks to mark the occasion.
I am dedicating my next cr*p to him.
ya , this shows how far the the UN has gone down that toilet
God forbid they the UN would have a moment of silence for the millions the regime killed or let starve to death.
I wasn’t aware that North Korea was a member of the UN.
IIRC, the Korean was was technically the UN forces vs North Korea.
On the other hand, given the makeup of the UN, I can certainly understand the sorrow felt by the majority of the membership, given the loss of a totalitarian, murderous tyrant.
Mark
if your turd looks like Jimmy Carter, it would be even more appropo.
ah that good ol’ anti-American Israeli hatin’ U.N. FUUN!
He was the greatest leader in the world with the possible exception of LBJ,FDR, Lincoln and Obama (who got a Nobel Peace two minutes after becoming President)
If we had a UN rep with any gonads they would not enter the General Assembly hall untill the crap honoring that idiot Kim Jong il was over .
Find a toilet that faces East and you can get a two-fer....
The UN has yet to meet a Communist dictator mass murderer it doesn’t like.
Someone needs to tell the UN that old Kim is in hell with Hitler, Stalin, Huessein, Bin Laden, Ted Kennedy, and Gadahfi.
On a lighter note, that moment of silence is the -perfect- time to let one rip.
I’d be happy to observe that moment of silence for Kim and listen for the sound of his distant screams while doing so.
And then have a couple of pops.
