Mitch McConnell didn't like the Tea Party from the get go. He is a strategist -- a chess player. You could tell from the start that the Senate minority leader saw no upside whatsoever in having the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower, and Reagan represented by idiots like Christine O'Donnell, borderline personalities like Sharron Angle, or know-nothings like Rand Paul. But, ever being that strategist, he also realized that the Tea Party was poised to have a good run for a couple years. So he never got fully on board with them, but he did make room for them, and he carried some of their water when he had to.
But his days of carrying water for the Tea Party are officially over now. Because the Tea Party itself is officially over. Mitch McConnell has been a leader among Republicans for a long time. Now, apparently, he has decided to actually do some leading.

Keith Rouda (Louisville.com Newspaper),
I just read your "Mitch McConnell and the Tea party" article ... it was reposted today at Free Republic.
First, we're both political junkies ... just opposite sides of the fence (and as Ronald Reagan, would say, from the opposite sides of history) ...
Second ... without being a Clymer (it is Christmas Eve, after all) ... I would tell you that the Tea Party movement is (indeed) quite "alive and well" ...
We're quietly going about ... working for strategic change to help save the United States from socialism, the (stupid) repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell" ... well, you know, the drill ...
The Mitch McConnels and Harry Reids will soon be gone from politics ... just as Juan McCain ...
Nancy Pelosi ? Well, as Newt Gingrich (my candidate) joked the other day at a speech in South Carolina ... something to the effect that ... "Nancy Pelosi is actually more conservative than her own district" ...
===========================
2012 will be a great year for America ... especially "legal" citizens of all races and religious persuasions ... the tapestry and fabric that Dr. Martin Luther King talked about ...
I'm really looking forward to comparing the Presidential Candidate's Academic Transcripts, Health Records, Financial Statements ... for Newt and the Democratic candidate (it clearly won't be The Kenyan, because he refuses to release those records ... smile) ...
One more thing ... the "lunatic" Dr. Ron Paul (Dr. Winkie) is "not" endorsed by most Tea Party folks ... especially African-Americans (LOL) ...
So ... I guess that I wanted to take time today to help you recalibrate your "political sensor array" ...
Remembering that you can't always believe that "Stalinist Propaganda" that's the usual soup de jour at ABC-CBS-CNN-PBS-NBC-NYT and the Washington Compost ...
But you knew that already, didn't you ?
