WEST BOUNTIFUL In a closet inside Gary Turley's West Bountiful home, an empty spot now shows where his most valued material possession used to sit. It was a safe, containing nearly $200,000 in cash he thought was safer there than in a bank.
"It was my life savings," Turley said. "I had stuff from my grandpa, who's dead now: his pocket watch, stuff like that. My Social Security cards, Visas, passports, birth certificates, checking everything to do with my checking (was in the safe)."
How it disappeared is almost worse that losing it in the first place.
Back in August, Turley was celebrating his daughter's wedding. He didn't know his new son-in-law well, nor did he know about the plot the couple had hatched to clean him out planning to steal the safe containing money he scrimped and saved 20 years for.

If that was my daughter she would be SO GROUNDED
How do we know there was really $200,000 in that safe? I guess we’ll never know now. At any rate, no matter how much money it really was, the people who stole it are scumbags.
What a rotten daughter
Guess they’ll have to change the name to “WAS Bountiful”.
Ungrateful little B*tch!
An old boy should know better.
I Hope he didn't pay for the wedding too.
I almost commented on the fact that he raised her but then realized I have known families who raised a bunch of kids with all of them being really good people only to have a real black sheep too.
I also know a family who raised 6 kids. Five of them turned out to be crooked as they could be. Sort of odd that they were always friendly and sort of fun but totally crooked.
They had one Son who was as straight as an arrow and who retired from the Army as a full Colonel.
Now, I just wonder how/ why the man has multiple Social Security cards, passports, birth certificates?
I would really like to know the other side of this story.
What is it with the name "Wayne". A life of crime, you will see if the name Wayne is given.
Hindsight being 20/20, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Even if you don’t trust banks, there’s no reason to put all your valuables in one place. Spread it around.
If you’re gonna keep such items at home.........Never, ever let anyone (except maybe wife) know that you keep such valuables much less where you keep them.
He was married. One can assume at least two each of the items.
Yes, and what about this:
“he thought was safer there than in a bank” but he kept his checkbook there, too?
A little known fact was that Al Capone had a brother who was a cop-a fed, in fact.
