Yes, but what’s noteworthy is that Gingrich and Perry had the numbers and the organization to get the signatures, and (apparently) incompetence in the campaign screwed up.
That’s why it’s a story. The MSM sucks, it’s true, but MSM suckage doesn’t make the mistakes of the Newt or Perry camps more palatable.

Gingrich has clearly lacked money to maintain his organization. Perry has the money, but with his low poll numbers, it's tough for him to keep a motivated organization in place.
