Iraq will continue to be the battle grounds
between suni and shiite.
Furthermore, they have other problems such as
Al-Qaeda, Kurds autonomy, how to properly divide
the oil revenues, Iran’s evil influence etc.
In other words, Iraq is toast.

Iraq is 65% Shia, 35% Sunni. Saddam and his regime were Sunni. I’m not sure of the power structure now or what the make-up of the military is, but you can bet it will remain bloody there for a long long time.

Blame it on the British. They drew the boundaries...

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

If only we had kept our troops there indefinitely, Iraq would have become a fine Christian Republic.

You're probably right. It would have merely taken 50 to a 100 years.

That too, but it was a long time ago.
Germany was divided but they reunited again.
N & S.Korea will be reunited one day once the people
in the north can be convinced (woken up from their cultish
sleep) that it is the right move.
However, islam divides people, and muslims fight and kill
among themselves due to fundamental differences (sunni/shia/ahmadi/..),
the Arabs muslims in Sudan kill the African muslims there!
They are never happy in their homelands and are only happy
once they are in the West, but then they want to change the
rules in the West once they have settled down.

you're missing the point. basing rights are easy. we have them all over the planet, and no one dies from them. all you have to do is want them.

How long do you want to keep troops in Iraq?

Would you submit to Iraq's demand they be subjected to Iraqi law?

I agree with decision to get our troops out of that hellhole and back home. Let the chips fall as they may.

the differences were surmountable, the obamites just didn’t want to surmount them. perfectly acceptable basing rights were possible. we have them all over the planet, including middle eastern countries.

it’s odd that the only people that wanted to turn the win in iraq into a loss more than the obamites are the paulbots.

the quickest way to end a war is to lose it. congrats.

It’s a civil war with both sides (both? More like 4 sides!) considering outside forces the enemy.

Half the Christian population of Iraq had to flee, following USA intervention. Not really a success story.

Conventional logic doesn’t work with Islamic countries. Al Quaida-like entities win the Elections. There can be no nation building when the very ethos of the people involved is insane. Their natural state is at best a precarious peace maintained by a dictatorship. That’s what works and makes sense there. The USA can do it, but at the cost of a full scale occupation and complete dictatorial control. Half measures? Useless. Spreading the blessings of democracy to Muslims? An Enlightenment wet dream.

I’m not sure why it’s news at all. Muslims live to kill others.
