5 Fascinating Facts About ‘X Factor’ Winner Melanie Amaro (Rejected by local Fox station)

She used to hide her Caribbean accent - Viewers were shocked on the top nine show when this soft-spoken singer out of nowhere morphed into a totally different person....

She was denied an "X Factor" fast-pass - Not only did Melanie almost get sent home before the live shows, she almost didn't make it to her audition at all. "I wanted to get a Fast Pass at the local Fox news in Florida, and they told me, 'No, we didn't enjoy you very much,'" she says, incredibly. "So I waited in line with all the thousands of people." Guess it was worth the wait.

Her hometown mayor helped her family travel to the finale...

She started singing at six months old...

She thinks she could sing "Young Homie" better than Chris Rene

That’s a pretty bizarre use of the word “fascinating”

The British Virgin Islands is one of the last strong holds in this hemisphere for Christian Values and true self-governing.

We had the privilege to live in Tortola, BVI for 13 years.

There is very little divorce in Tortola. God and Family reign.

There is also very little crime on the Islands. Crime that there is comes from outsiders, not Belongers. In the BVI if the evidence adds up you are guilty until proven innocent.

They have tort reform. If you sue someone be sure you are on the right side of the case. If the ruling or the verdict go against you, you pay your adversaries’ attorney and court fees.

You cannot own property in the BVI without obtaining a Non-Belonger’s License. Ours took 18 months and had restrictions. We could not work on the Island, we could not stay longer than 6 months, you cannot own a business without approval of the government.

You can never get citizenship on the Island unless you were Born Here. Citizenship is granted by the Government.

You cannot get on the Island without a passport. They have real control over visitors. If you extend you stay in the BVI they will come looking for you and ask you to leave and not come back.

When we lived in Tortola they did not allow dreadlocks to be worn on the Island. One elite DC Congresswoman and a record producer from Detroit were not allowed on the Island.
The first one took her private jet back to DC and the later went out to his jet and came back without his locks. Today, I believe they have changed the law so that only “Belongers” can have dreads and then most of the folks on Tortola look down on this “riff-raff”.

We have recently considered moving back to the BVI just to escape in the political insanity here in the USA. It is a great place to live. The only drawback we had was that as we got older health care facilities don't compare to those in the USA.

Nature's Little Secret is the BVI’s motto.

... since maybe not quite so many people were watching "The X Factor" as the show's creator, Simon Cowell, might have hoped ...

I'm a fan of shows like "American Idol" and "America's Got Talent", but I quit watching "X-Factor" after two weeks when I realized the show is more about the judges and not the talent.

Okay, I learned something here. I had heard that there was a show called “X Factor” I assumed it was about modeling or, improbably, genetics. So I see I am not missing anything, at any rate.

Two comments on X-Factor:

1. Melanie Amaro was the only real talent. I picked her to win the first time I heard her sing.

2. X-Factor in general is, for me, unwatchable due to the producers policy of allowing the crowd noise (mostly screaming girls?) to wash over both the performances and the discussions by the judges. That crowd noise is simply so annoying it spoils the show (YMMV). So my practice was to TIVO the show, watch Melanie sing and forget the rest.

I love the BVI’s.
I did the Windjammer cruise for my honeymoon. We then came back and rented at Fort Recovery. We came back a third time and rented the Cane Garden Bay beach house on the west side of the Wedding Bar.

It changed a lot between our first and third trip. They built the cruise ship dock in the interim. They also moved the Willie T over to Road Town Harbour.

Did they ever catch the person responsible for the death of the American woman found down by Sopers Hole about 15 years ago ? I know they had arrested and imprisoned one American man for a couple years, but I heard he was released.

I would love to move there. However, I do not think I could afford it. Wouldn’t you just be able to go to St. Thomas for health care ?

Melanie could be a $50M talent as Simon suggested. At least these people get a 5M contract if #1. She only had to have faith in herself and finally did. She deserved the win. The runners up will have careers as well. Chris Rene I really had to admire and is a true talent, as was told not one of the best singers, but has that XFactor that Simon has always talked about, pianist, guitarist, wrote his arrangements/lyrics under a quick timeframe and took chances and performed different genres. He could be seen as a writer for other famous artists.

I had to get used to the format and "flash" of XF, but the talent was far better than AI, "as a whole", has ever been. Yes, was quirkly with the judges coaching their contestants in different locations of US and in Paris with Simon. The groups failed as usually only one talented member and one who can bring 'the whole' down.

I did not like the master of ceremonies stiff and never seem to make it to the inner group XF circle..what is it with English Accents now the vogue in hiring for the media/entertainment/commmercials in the US? He is no Seacrest/Dick Clark.

The first season of any show is always difficult out of the gate. Idol was the best this year, but that took changes to move up from previous years of failing ratings. The talent was so..so but for mega star, Carrie Underwood and Clarkson perhaps the real only shining lights

. Saw AI contestant Kellie Pickler with Rodney Atkins in concert just before Christmas, and she is tremendous--big voice for such a petite lady...great band! I think the crowd liked Pickler the best--it was a better show. It was she everyone talked about afterwards.

Also a Christian, Scotty McCreery, ‘I Love You This Big, hit an immediate #1 out of the park, lyrics written in part by a hip hop type guy “Lil” Ronnie Jackson; as they too are trying to move into country where the money is! Scotty is gifted with the voice plus being a young male in the business, a void; where young Country female super stars have seem to grab the spotlight.

I can't take America's Got Talent!!!![grimaces]

Pegged her as the winner from the first song she sang. The judges bickering hurt some of the contestants and cost a couple of them spots in the final. Should have been an all girl final three. Simon had the best talent of the show in his group but I really liked Chris Renee even though I’m not a fan of his music genre.

I don’t watch the show, but I catch clips occasionally on youtube. Isn’t Melanie the one Simon cut from his group, and then asked her to rejoin the competition?

The hip-hoppity guys can rhyme but they can't write ORIGINAL music for squat, which is why they steal other people's songs and melodies and rap their crappy rhymes over them. No wonder they've started doing lyrics for real musicians.

Have to agree with you there about the jumpin around and the crotch grabbing - not something I like to see either. I do hope he keeps clean with the drug problem issue.

That’s why I liked Chris Rene..he could do the hip hop with his own lyric/production heart felt, and then croon [see below] with the same heart to another audience, plus held his own with Avril Lavigne in duet. [and I am not anywhere close a fan of hip hop!]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYPTS_39I8g

Original song/audition by Rene “young homie”

He could be a role model, he’s been there, done that! Not too proud to say he picks up trash for a living. He’s an inspirational artist—the true grit, you gotta love him even if one is not a fan of this music.. a former addict[just got out of rehab] Chris says: “it takes education to change your reputation”!! Not the best singer but..an inspiration!! Loved the interaction with his family. He makes no excuses!!!

Another original by Rene crooning “where do we go from here” - this was done quick on the spot challenge.

Other XFactor artists

Josh singing “Something” [Joe Cocker] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eBJv4YUbgM&feature=related

13 yr old Rachael Crow who left on an emotional note.
“l’d Rather Go Blind” [that is a whole other story of dismissal and how handled]

.

American Idol had not touched the “amount of talent” that was picked for the show!! Needs some tweaking, sure but then all shows do.

He did cut her and it looked like a ploy to interest viewers.
Guess it worked to some extent.

The woman that was killed actually had some mental problems. There were three Americans that they imprisoned for trial. One was let go and the others actually went to trial and were convicted. The kids all were from wealthy families that owned property on the hillside at Long Bay and partied together for years. There was a lot of gay stuff involved and drugs. The mother of the woman actually felt it was just a matter of time before her daugther would have met her demised in one way or another.

Long story short, the two convicted were set free and told never to come back to the Island. Lots of pressure put on the BVI Government to return these men to the USA. Homosexuality is against the law in the BVI.

We also lived on St. Thomas for 5 years until the cruise ship industry got so bad we wanted out. The Medical care on Tortola actually is better than that in St. Thomas. We always kidded that if you went into the hospital you would always come out with something. Actually had a doctor friend that also lived in St. Thomas and worked at the hospital. Recommended to go to the mainland for medical treatment. The only bad thing I saw happening was that Tortolians would go to St. Thomas when they were due for their babies so that the baby would be born in the US and therefore enjoy dual citizenship. It was a well know secret in the islands but it happened all the time. Now I think BVI has changed their laws that at least one parent has to be a Belonger to get BVI citizenship. They didn't like the reverse course that they took going to the USVI used on them. They are pretty sharp folks. No fast food chains allowed either. They want everything owned and run by locals. Guess you got to know Quito at CGB. They are fighting to try to get the cruise ships stopped. The only ones making money is the former Governor who owns the cruise ship dock and the Rhymers on CGB. To the Ship?
