I hope someone who lives in Israel can enlighten us.
From what I have read, the government has enabled and even favored the ultra-Orthodox community over the years, so may be responsible for having created the sense of ultra-entitlement. But these are guesses on my part.....

I’d like to know of what that “preference” and “enabling” consists. Israeli police are rather prone to beating up Chassidic demonstrators. They do get out of IDF service rather easily, but some of them are ideologically opposed to a state of Israel so it’s best not to have them in. They do not get to throw things at people or vandalize property with impunity. That’s a preference only Arabs have. The Satmar Hassidim have scrupulously refused to take any money from the Israeli government. My son is what you might call Haredi, but he did serve in the IDF, and he does NOT throw fecal matter at little girls.
