LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Some scary moments for a 16-year-old who was in bed asleep when two men break into her home in Pleasure Ridge Park.
Residents in the Hunters Pointe neighborhood say this wasn't the first time burglars are breaking in in the middle of the day. It's what this teen did that probably saved her life.
Around 11:30 Tuesday morning Steve Dennison's 16-year-old daughter was asleep in her bed, home alone, when two robbers busted through the back door.
"They took the iron chair and threw it through here. They never bothered to unlock the door they climbed through the door,” Steve Dennison said.
He says his daughter woke up when she heard two men rummaging through the house in Pleasure Ridge Park.
“She thought it was me making noise but when she looked down the hallway she knew something was wrong," Dennison said.
Dennison and his wife would normally be home during this holiday week but both were out running errands. Their quick thinking teen ran into her parents’ bathroom, locked the door, called 911 and called her parents. Within minutes police were on their way and a nearby family member ran to the house to help.
"He walked up to the backdoor on the deck and he had a glock and he was standing at the door and he yelled I'm gonna shoot ya I got a gun, " Dennison said.
The robbers then took off through the front door. They left behind a mess in the master bedroom and stole small electronics and jewelry.
Dennison feels fortunate that’s all they got away with. He knows how lucky his daughter is that she was not hurt.
"She knew exactly what she needed to do . 16-years-old ," Dennison said.
I actually did take him to the doctor because mono was going around his high school. He was so darn tired. The pediatrician checked his throat, looked at his chart... and then had him measured. No wonder he was so tired. His body was producing skin, muscle, tendons, veins, bone length... to keep up with that length. Yep... it hurt too. Especially at night. There is a huge difference between being lazy and being physically tired.
