Gallup: Tebow barely misses list of top 10 most admired men, still finishes ahead of Dalai Lama

On the one hand, he is more pious than the Dalai Lama.

On the other hand, the Dalai Lama’s got a better arm.

After the first two or three names at the top of these lists, it’s a steep drop percentage-wise. Many make the top 10 without a lot of support…

Only a vote or two kept pious powerhouse Tim Tebow, the Denver Broncos quarterback known for prayer and last-quarter saves, out of the top 10. He still topped the Dalai Lama.

The Tibetan monk was first with Mark Goodman. Goodman, 39, a high school principal in St. David, Ariz., called the Dalai Lama “thoughtful, compassionate and always focused on standing up for his people. That’s real leadership.”

Here’s the full list. The male and female winners are just who you’d expect they are, although Palin has slipped a bit this year while Bachmann has gained enough to crack the top 10. Meanwhile, on the men’s side, the list goes like this:

Sixth place: Newt Gingrich(!)
Seventh place: Donald Trump(!!)
Eighth place: Benedict XVI

Newt and Trump ahead of the Pope. Even as an atheist, I’m horrified.

Exit question: Billy Graham has made the top 10 in 55 different years — but has never actually placed first? C’mon.

A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I’m a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I’m on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he’s gonna stiff me. And I say, “Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.” And he says, “Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.” So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.

It is a bit of a joke if for no other reason than Monson is in the top 10. 99.99999999% of the USA has never heard of that name, yet he is in the top 10.

An interesting poll result would be the percent of Americans who can correctly state who Thomas Monson is. I bet it would be less than 1%.

My list of most admired men of 2011:

1) My grandad—lived through the great depression and gave the Nazi’s hell on Normandy and Luxembourg—still kicking at 93

2) My Dad —gave the Viet Cong hell in Da Nang and then served 26 years in the military

3) My Boss—keeps our company alive by emptying his own IRA to cover debts and must deal with ridiculous regs and taxes to keep company afloat

4) The anonymous folks who care for the sick, hungry and homeless with their OWN money without any fanfare.

Most admired Women of 2011:

1) My wife because putting any women on a pedestal ahead of her might land me on the couch for sleeping arrangements for the entire 2012.

HUH! Newt is the only male candidate to make the list. How did that happen? I thought every one was upset at his moral turpitude.
