Perry: Obama cares more about politics than U.S. troops

Urbandale, Iowa (CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry accused Barack Obama of caring more about politics than American troops on Wednesday, blasting the president for not planning a major parade to welcome home soldiers from the war in Iraq.

The last combat troops left the country last week, after nearly nine years of fighting.

“This president wouldn’t welcome home our many heroes with a simple parade in their honor,” the Republican presidential candidate told a packed house at The Machine Shed restaurant in Urbandale.

Obama: I hate everything about America so I’m destroying it. I especially hate the great US Military.

Rick Perry is exactly right about that.

One of the reasons I love Perry: he tells it like it is.

Perry expresses what others are thinking. He has the platform to do just that so he is smart enough to use it.

“Why should you settle for anything less than an authentic conservative who will fight for your views and values without an apology?”

I was at this appearance this morning. It was full, and we had to stand in the overflow area. Got my grainy picture of Perry on my Blackberry!
I think Perry would do a good job if elected President. He is definitely a conservative; wanting smaller government, less government, and more local control over things. He believes these things; not just talk.

Weather here in Iowa is beautiful, highs about 50. Not sure how that may impact things next week.
No Occupy protesters at this appearance; but those types don't get up until about noon; so didn't expect any!

Nice to hear...sounds as if Perry is being received well in Iowa!!! There should be a lot of Texans there now. Between yesterday and the 3rd of January expect around 2000.

Add me to your PING list. He seems like the best choice. Perry will have good people around him. I hope he has a last minute surge.

Round 'em up and move 'em out to caucus.

I like that and if he can bristle up and lead the fight he’s the man.

Right, not just talk. Versus the debates, which were ALL talk, no action.

I’m hoping that Perry’s ground game and his adeptness at retail politicking will catch on seriously in Iowa over the next week. With Gingrich and Paul both dropping, Romney stuck at the same level as always, it’s up to the Conservatives to coalesce around one candidate and shake things up. That candidate should be Perry, as he’s got the most governing experience compared to Bachmann and Santorum. But we’ll see soon, I guess.

Do you know when the Des Moines Register poll comes out? That’s supposed to be the gold standard of the Iowa polls just before the election is held, right?

I think Perry will do better than people think. I am down to Perry or Gingrich. Gingrich concerns me in that something negative could come up with him down the road from his past. He is a great communicator however.

Perry just isn't the smoothest speaker; which doesn't have a lot do with how he could perform as President; but it does matter in a campaign.
A skill full campaign team could work to mitigate that a great deal however.
Perry has also been seasoned as a large state governor. I would not worry however about a skeleton jumping out of Perry's closet in August

Those are my two choices also BUT Perry is way far ahead in my choice, Gingrich is a far distant second.

So glad that you were able to see Perry today on the trail. How was he received by the people in the crowd?

I think positively. People at these appearances are there if they have an interest in learning more; or supporters. You just can't argue with what he says if you are a limited government conservative.

I think many people probably have a similar thought pattern to me.
We would have rather seen some different candidates; but we are down to a few days; and time to get something figured out with who we have.
