(CBS/WMAZ) BATAVIA, N.Y. According to CBS affiliate WMAZ, Jacquetta Simmons, 26, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, says State Police Trooper Tracy Patterson. Simmons faces the second count because the victim, 70-year-old Grace Suozzi, is over 65. On Sunday, Simmons was reportedly still being held in Genesee County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Patterson said Simmons had receipts for everything in her bags, WMAZ reports.

No excuse for the assault.

Just wondering; Once an individual pays for their shopping items and receives a receipt, are not said items property of the individual?

Technically yes, but not after said fist makes contact with the requester’s face. Said fist is then in question of rightful property momentarily along with blunt trauma produced.

Maybe so, but I would think the merchant has every right to
request that you show a receipt before you leave their property.

The obvious answer to your question is Yes, but what does that have to do with preventing a Shoplifter from leaving the store with items that have not been paid for?

I hope the Perp gets every bit of Justice that the Law will allow. Funny how “justice” means something different to FReepers than it does to Liberals.

The checks are not just to discover shoplifting, but also (and I suspect mainly) failure to scan their friends purchases by cashiers.

I fail to see the difference in Justice between FReepers and “Liberals” as you express such. would you care to explain?

Once an individual pays for their shopping items and receives a receipt, are not said items property of the individual?

"Shoplifting, employee or supplier fraud and organized retail crime cost the U.S. retail industry $119 billion in 2011"

Ever been to BJ's or Sam's Club?

Every customer leaving with merchandise is asked to show their receipt. The employee then checks each item against he receipt and punches the receipt when a 100% match is made. Then you are good to go.

Shoplifting Rises in Weeks Leading up to Christmas

Theft in retail stores was up to its highest level in four years in 2011, and it seems shoplifters picked up the pace in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Shoplifting, employee or supplier fraud and organized retail crime cost the U.S. retail industry $119 billion in 2011, or 1.45% of sales. That rate is 6.6% higher than the previous year, and represents the highest percentage recorded by the survey since in began in 2007.

The figure averages to about $435 per family, and about 47.8% of all U.S. retailers, according to The Global Retail Theft Barometer, a survey of more than 1,187 retailers worldwide.

Much of that theft, or 36% of the losses, included shoplifting by regular people, while employees stealing supplies represented about 44% and the loss from professionals stealing large quantities added up to about 3%.

In the four weeks leading up the Christmas, an estimated $1.84 billion in merchandise will be shoplifted, according to the Global Retail Theft Barometer. That’s up 6% from $1.7 billion in 2010.

"They shoplift for Christmas gifts, they steal for themselves, for their family," Joshua Bamfield, executive director of the Centre for Retail Research and author of the survey, told the Associated Press.

Are you not aware that these jobs are usually given to mentally or physically impaired individuals? This position was created specifically to give these unfortunates a JOB.

Maybe you should rethink your position, oh you don't go there anymore..... GOOD.

With pleasure. Liberals think the Perp deserves sympathy because Life isn't fair and our Justice System exists to redeem them. The Victim is not part of the equation.

FReepers (at least this one) think Justice assures that the Perp is punished to the full extent of the Law if convicted of a crime. The Victim is not forgotten, they are embraced.

Ever discuss the concept of the Castle Doctrine with a Liberal? The abhor the idea that you can use deadly force in defending your Family Home, since the poor Burglar was just looking to steal a TV.

Liberals are mind readers doncha know.
