Occupy Plans to Occupy the Rose Parade

A segment of Occupy Wall Street protesters applied for a permit to be in the annual Rose Parade on January 2nd. They should be applauded for their application -- it was an uncharacteristic submission to hierarchy. But the people who really deserve applause is the parade officials who rejected their application.

But now the Occupiers, who never take no for an answer, plan to follow behind the police cars that conclude the parade. Officials are aware of this, and an article by Penny Starr of CNS News said:

“They will be allowed, just like any other spectator or any other demonstrator, to fall in at the completion of the parade behind our four police cars that trail the parade,” Riddle [Lt. of the Pasadena Police Department] said. “That doesn’t give them placing, that doesn’t give them a permit – no permit is needed as long as they don’t infringe on other individuals that every year gather in the street and walk.”

The Occupiers plan to make a "human float" -- whatever form that ends up taking, it should be an interesting spectacle.

Unsurprisingly, the Tea Party outclassed the Occupiers in their response. Starr's article states:

But Michael Alexander, president and co-founder of the Tea Party Pasadena Patriots and its political action committee, TEAPAC, said he doesn’t think the protestors will have much impact and described the Occupy efforts as a “movement in decline.”

Alexander said his group debated whether to stage a counter-demonstration but it was decided that it was wrong to “politicize” the beloved parade.

“America is entitled to one day without politics, whether it’s the Tea Party, the Democrats, the Republicans or the Occupy people,” Alexander said. “The Rose Parade is our parade and we deeply resent any effort to politicize it.”

“The real demonstration is going to be at the polls in November and at every other election in between,” Alexander said. “That’s where this battle will be fought -- not in petty street theater.”

Your relocations of the weirdoes that follow this parade is spot on. Thing is, if you have never attended the parade you don’t know about the nuts bringing up the rear because the TV cameras are long shut off, and the coverage is now totally focused on the football games of the day. After the last float goes by, if they want to get noticed they are going to have to parachute on to the 50 yard line of the Rose Bowl.

The beknighted unwashed are sure to raise a ruckus about their permit being denied since so many elected officials are either sympathetic or intimidated by them. Despite the MSM’s distorted image of them, they’ll push until everyone will have to disavow them to retain a vestige of credibility because THEY’RE MORONS!

I hope these “occupiers” disrupt, aggivate, and generally piss off everyone everyday right up to the election

They are a ready-made campaign commercial to run against Obama and the Dems every day of the week. Just have a split screen with the OWS gang's shenanigans on one side, with endorsements by Pelosi, Obama, et al., and the Tea Party cleaning up after themselves on the other.

No.....they just realize that virtually every cop in all of Southern California is on duty in Pasadena that day every year.

IF horses are mixed with pepper spray, there will be trouble. I don’t care how well trained a parade horse is, pepper spray changes the whole thing.

The cameras will be shut off long before they cross the main part of the parade route. Wasted effort on their part.

If I still lived anywhere near the area I’d consider getting a group together dressed as sanitation agents “armed” with deodorant, spray cleaner, pooper scoopers, and flyswatters and as the “after-parade” progresses follow along behind them “freshening” the street.

While the “after” parade usually doesn’t get press, I wouldn’t be surprised if the usual media suspects give it some this year.

Good. I want these people to be as big a nuisance as possible.

It's up to us to remind/inform people that these miscreants are all Urkel's constituents.

This won’t help Occupy a bit. Usually it is the “repent now— the world is ending” people on bicycles. So this year, it will be the Occupy people. The audience is overwhelmingly families. They will not be interested in Occupy, or will think it’s funny/pathetic.

The occupotty people have failed to listen to Pasadena police who have been very clear here - they will not be given placement after the parade. They may fall in, like everyone else. The 'repent now' group organizes and follows the parade at the first available moment, whereas the occupotty people plan on waiting for the end of parade to make the turn onto Colorado before they enter it.

Then again, as of 45 minutes ago, they had a whole 6 people there, one of which was in a military uniform (an odd mix of Army Ranger patches, Marine fatigues and infantry pins..) doing what occupotty protesters do best - offering the strangest of opinions. He was wearing a sign saying 'Dr. Martin Luther King would have been sent to Gitmo.'

I couldn't help myself, I actually had to ask him "Do you consider Dr. Martin Luther King to be a violent psychopath bent on enforcing religious rule by murdering others, suppressing the education of women, denial of gays to even live, and committing terrorism against foreign and domestic targets?"

As usual, his response was confused, filled with statements which made no sense, but the gist was that no, Dr. King wasn't like those held in Gitmo, he just would have been sent there.

Yep, you're right, they'll be just where the weirdos go in the parade, right behind the 'end is near' bicycle crew. I did get a laugh though - the space they wanted on Colorado Blvd across from the cameras was filled with Cal Poly students who didn't seem interested in the least in giving up their spot to 'the important movement.. Don't they understand that we're fighting for them?'

No, occupotty protester, they realize exactly what you're fighting for - you're fighting for free rides for all those useless degrees which they're told are equivalent to the hard four years of work they put in for engineering degrees, supporting departments which drain university resources and fill classrooms with brain dead Marxists who make regular appearances on campus to say how evil corporations are, while reading speeches off their iPads and drinking Starbucks.

You're looking for the Chicano Studies students and Women's Studies and the others who won't be at the Rose Parade - those kids who are there helped build that float in the parade and are there in pride and school spirit.

We’re going to the parade today, nearer the end of the route. Our Conservative children say they want to bring American flags to wave at the Occupiers, as they sing the Star Spangled Banner. We only have two kids, though, so I’m not expecting to start a huge counter-protest.

As to the Cal Poly students who will not cede their place to the Occupy people, many of them probably vote Democrat. But you’re right that they haven’t much in common with the Victims studies majors.

We were just at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo last week, looking around and taking a hike. Many beautiful, fairly new, dormitories and buildings, with every conservation and earth friendly feature spelled out in signs next to the buildings. A whole lot of tax money must of gone there, but the students there are extremely sharp and have practical majors. They should be more capable than most of repaying the money by being productive future tax payers.

We didn’t see any Occupy people at all. I think the kids were disappointed. We were at the very end of the parade route. I guess Occupiers are better at squatting than marching.
