In Mauston, it’s easier for the School District to fire teachers. In Jefferson County, seniority no longer determines who is laid off or promoted. In Waukesha County, road maintenance workers can’t count on overtime pay when they work odd hours. In New Berlin, teachers work longer days and can wear school sweatshirts on only a limited number of days.
Across Wisconsin, school districts and local governments are replacing union contracts with policy manuals that give public administrators a clear upper hand for the first time in 50 years under a state law that essentially ends union rights for most public employees.
Many local officials say they are moving cautiously to avoid upsetting teachers, snowplow drivers and others who provide services the public expects, but plenty of changes have been made since June when Gov. Scott Walker and other Republicans enacted the law after unprecedented protests at the Capitol.
“Things are moving fairly quickly in places where the contracts are up,” said Dan Thompson, executive director of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities.
The rules already have changed in hundreds of places where union contracts expired. Many more union pacts run out as soon as Dec. 31 for local government workers and June 30 for school district employees.

Have you seen any reports as to how many union workwers have now VOLUNTARILY signed up for dues check off? That’s what is realy upsetting the unions..the automatic infusion of cash has stopped.
I guess the next step is funding the pensions and cutting taxes?
I can’t imagine the Wisconsin voters turning Scott Walker out after reading stuff like this. If the voters here in California were smart enough to demand the same changes, this state would turn around in a year! Public Employee Unions= selfish crapweasels!
Government workers and school employees are being asked to help fund their pensions for the first time. I think their contribution is along the lines of 5% - nothing compared to private workers. Yet, their pensions are still lavish in comparison.
But that little 5% has balanced our budget for the first time in 8 years without raiding the highway fund, the medical fund, or anything else.
Same goes for their health insurance. They are asked for a tiny contribution for the first time. You’d think they were all a bunch of stuck pigs, for all the squealing going on.
The school districts that rushed new union contracts through during the protests are the only ones that have had to lay off workers. The proof is in the putting. Scott Walker is my hero and my bumpersticker says so.
I forgot. My taxes went down too. What’s not to love?

It doesn’t seem that CA has seen the error of its way yet. Heard on the radio this morning that CA is requiring that schools teach the contributions of gays, lesbians, and other underrepresented minorities to historical events... in grade school? Parents can “opt out” if they so choose to, for their children.
If Walker expecected a fair shake from Wisconsin media this hit piece by Steven Verburg in the Wisconsin State Journal should prove it will never happen.
For example Verbburg doesn’t explain up to now snow plow drivers were on call and were paid overtime for a on 24 hour call instead of being scheduled at a given time to plow and overtime paid if required over a 40 hour work week .And there are dozens of examples which I can’t get into here
This piece is going to show up as a campaign handout and will show up in key areas to drive up the vote total
What the Wisconsin State Journal and Verbourg did was donate a $10,000 services in kind cazmpaign contribution to the re-call walker campaign.
For some reasn which I really don’t understand the recall was orchestrated by the Obama administration but Walker’s people have not hung this on Washington. Finally Walker’s campaign are citing other states controlled by the democrats including Illinois who are firing people by the thousands and that’s a tactic I’ve been urging them to use.

Walker has a big job ahead of him here in Wisconsin. We need him in Madison at least 7 more years. Then we’ll share him with the nation.
You can have Paul Ryan first. Then Walker.

Very funny; the best part was that the education monopoly scum did it to themselves. They never thought kicking the can further down the road with borrowing to finance their ridiculous compensation (present AND future) would ever end; what really helped do them in was the mass layoffs in another public service union (police) to pay for the school unions). Governor Christie let those two fight it out in NJ, by capping our property tax increases at 2%; where teachers got 4% raises cops and untenured teachers got pink slips.
