Look for a future mandate requiring new electrical installations to have receptacles that don’t allow traditional bulbs to be screwed in.

“And while House Republicans included a provision in a recent spending bill that will block funding for the ban’s enforcement”

Stop dicking around - reverse the law or leave it.

However, the ban gave GE all the reason they needed to shutter an incandescent bulb factory and move it to China.

How does the Obama account for those jobs? Doesn’t seem they were saved or created... here.

In all fairness, they couldn’t reverse the law. That would have required both houses to pass the repeal (and the Senate is controlled by Demonrats) and Obama’s signature or both Houses to pass the repeal by a two-thirds margin (see first parenthetical statement).

It’s really not fair to blame Republicans for doing the best they can. If we don’t like it, we need to get our fellow Amerikans to give the GOP veto-proof majorities.

The deployment of light bulbs as heat balls is at least as old as my boyhood. I remember well that our automobile was parked in a non-enclosed car-shed alongside the house in Amarillo, Texas, where winter night-time temperatures would often drop into the teens and lower. How to keep the car engine warm enough to start on the freezing morning after sitting all night in such temperatures?

Easy. Dad would place a drop-light -- turned on, of course -- on top of the engine, then carefully lower the hood so that the shining droplight was contained under the hood, atop the engine. The bulb wattage was, as I recall, 100 watts.

Next morning, the car would start as if the temps had dropped only into the 30s.

I've done the same with a couple of old buildings (one constructed in 1887) on nights when the temps were low enough to freeze the pipes under the sink. Like Dad with the car, I put incandescent lamps (small bedside lamps) under the sinks, turned on of course, and closed the doors covering the under-sink space. The 100 watt incandescent bulbs kept everything under the sink cozy and warm enough to avoid freezing pipes.

And the dems in the Senate? Harry Reid is pro-ban.

Sometimes witholding the funds is the only option...

Sorry, but it was Fred Upton, R-MI6, that cosponsored this legislation in the house. Chances of winning are greatly diminished when your own side is lobbing grenades at you.

This is wonderful! Kudos to Herr Rotthaeuser for his thinking and action to back it up. I love his "12 Heatball Theses" (I wonder if he nailed these to the door of the EU in Brussels):

12 Heatball Theses

  1. Heatball is the enlightened view of what is essential
  2. Heatball is the warmth that has not been recognised for decades
  3. Heatball is the reversal of disaffected thinking
  4. Heatball has become satire through the absurdity of reality
  5. Heatball is like Hamlet, who presents a mirror to his cynical stepfather
  6. Heatball is easy to understand and difficult to fight, and gets stronger through arbitrariness and harassment
  7. Heatball is an electrical resistance against the destruction of cultural goods
  8. Heatball is an image for the dilemma of culture to combine knowledge and emotions
  9. Heatball is an Art Action and connects the people of Europe with warmth
  10. Heatball is the artistic answer to a product of politics
  11. Heatball is unbureaucratic help for the rain forest from people for humanity
  12. Heatball is free from mercury, independent from lobbyists, and a symbol of free mind

These heatballs are very efficient heaters within the house. As efficient as an electric heater/furnace. Even the visible light warms those objects it hits.

Also, toasters are light bulbs, but not very good ones. I’ve got one of these 1000 W bulbs in the kitchen. On dark nights, you can read by the weak orange glow between toast or bagels. Abe Lincoln would have enjoyed one of these as he studied his law books.

(Actually, electric heating is pretty bad. Since electric generating plants are roughly 50% efficient, you have already lost half of the energy released by the fuel. About half the energy goes out the stack at the plant. With gas or oil heat, you burn the fuel right there in your house with much less loss.)

Just like Prohibition, these ridiculous government bans on products people want will create a black market or a new opportunity for organized crime. I expect that guys in back alleys will soon be hawking 100W incandescent bulbs, high flow toilets and cigarettes from unmarked trucks.

Apparently, you, "do not know how Washington works" as Boehner once told Rush. A refrain that was repeated by Mitch McConnell in the most recent cave by the congressional Republicans during the payroll tax cut extension talks.

The whole of Congress has to be cleaned out and fumigated!!

I use more 60W bulbs than anything. I’ve noticed the during the last little while that they are not lasting as long as they used to.

This incandescent light bulb ban is a fine example of anarcho-tyranny. Anarcho-tyranny means the Gov’t harrases and burdens you with thousands of idiotic laws while not enforcing the important laws such as enforcmnet on our Mexican border and ejecting illegal immigrants. Reentry after being deported is a felony. This is never enforced

Anarcho-tyranny is when you have state Gov’ts making .08 blood alcohol a drunk driving offense. Also when police harass the middle class with inane traffic tickets while never exerting themselves to bust drug dealers

My last one lasted three weeks. Guess they were manufactured some time ago. Heading to buy a few extra boxes. I am not sure what to think about the new bulbs.. Lead and electricity?
