Chicago - An animal rights group wants Illinois to install highway signs in memory of cattle that died when trucks hauling them flipped in two separate wrecks.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants to buy the markers, one in suburban Chicago and one northwest of Peoria. PETA's request to the Illinois Department of Transportation says the signs would pay tribute to the more than 20 head of cattle killed as a result of negligent driving in Illinois this year.
Ashley Byrne of PETA says the effort is part of a national campaign to call attention to how cattle suffer in the meat industry.
IDOT spokesman Josh Kauffman says the request likely will be denied. Rules require that only relatives who lost loved ones in highway crashes may request roadside memorials.
Might I suggest a theme with...golden arches?

I have no objection as long as we can also put up signs in memory of all the babies killed (aborted) in the state of Illinois.

I eat meat, but I understand a lot of domesticated animals suffer needlessly at the hands of the meat industry. I applaud anyone who tries to see that animals aren’t abused.

A truck carrying hogs flipped on an interstate here in Kentucky a few years back. About 250 of the 400 porkers died in the crash.
Have you ever tried to discuss human ways to slaughter cows, pigs, chickens and baby seals with a PETA member?
They want to kill them with old age. The meat is tough by then.
For once I agree with Peta. All they need to do is plant a Peta member at each sight, and I’ll sign on.

If we’re go have memorials for anything in IL, it should be for the death of common sense amongst our elected leaders.
A monument could be created in the form of what comes out of the other end of the cow.

Those roadside memorials are usually crosses made of PVC pipe. Perhaps something like that would work, but sculpted into more of a "t-bone" shape.
According to the Warner Bros cartoons, when a cow is struck by a car it flies up in the air and falls to earth as prepackaged meat and sausages.
