Gore-mobile recalled as a fire hazard
Daily Mail (Charleston, WV) ^ | January 1, 2012 | Don Surber

Crony capitalism not only is a pain in the national wallet, but products from crony capitalists pose a physical danger. Fisker Automotive —fronted by Democratic eco-millionaire Al Gore —received a half-billion federal “loan” 2 years ago to make luxury electric cars.

Not only was this a sweetheart from the Obama administration, but the deal financed the manufacture of unsafe electric lemons.

From the New York Times:

Fisker Automotive is recalling all 239 of its 2012 Karma luxury plug-in hybrid cars because of a fire hazard, according to a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Prices on the 2012 model start at $103,000, including the destination charge..

..So for $529 million, taxpayers received less than 50 automobiles sold (apparently) to people who can afford the $89,000 sticker price. The New York Times report failed to mention Al Gore’s connection to this dubious enterprise

...Add the Chevy Volt —another fire hazard when charging —and you have a nice pipeline from the Treasury to the wallets of the FOO (Friends Of Obama).

Fisker Karma

Although with the smiley-faced front end, it looks like an oversized Mazda to me...

$529 million for 50 cars? I believe that’s about $10 million each. Weren’t the Volts costing something like $250,000 each? Man. Don’t let the government into the confection business. They’ll be making penny candy at $47,000 a piece.

Can you say “sucker”? as in how Congress was possibly “scammed”? Even more to the point...what percentage of 1/2 billion dollars needed to return to which congresscritters “campaign funds” to get the 1/2 billion out of the US Treasury to Fisker?

kinda like this one...?

these are basically cons...with an elaborate, “feel good” hook on them...

“Fiskers just like the scissors and gardening tools.”

Unfortunately the Finnish scissors mfr. is spelled Fiskars.

There was a fraternity in my hometown who would make anatomically correct, very well endowed snow men and snow women.

Wasn’t very well received on Sunday morning after a fresh snow by the church goers.

I went to their site this morning after reading online about their fire hazard problem. The car is actually pretty hot looking and could I afford one I’d probably have one in the driveway. BUT, I laughed when I spec’d the car with my colors and options. Wood trim from salvaged burnt trees from California wildfires or salvaged wood used for trim from the bottom of Lake Michigan. All sustainability, you understand. These folks are from the same stripe as the Gullible’s Travelers. What a crock of horsechit.

50 miles on a charge; 250 miles on a BMW produced back-up engine. Will the environmentally concerned buyers care to know that some of their recharging electrons were produced by nukes or a coal-fired plant? Naw, it’s all about the appearance of being PC for their lib neighbors and friends.

Too bad it’s a sweet looking ride.

No! No! Even the Democrats can’t be this stupid! What we need are Cheap, dependable, Small, electric cars that can do 55 MPH and go at least 40 miles on a charge—AND NOT BURST INTO FLAMES! They need to be built in America by Americans and they should look cool! These cheap electrics don’t need to talk to us, park themselves or show us where to go—a Radio is all they need. They should have a decent American Name—No high end Teslas- but economical urban cars—they could even look like a 50s Retro like an old Metropolitan. That’s what we need.

The Karma looks like a $130k Maserati. Also like a $200k Aston-Martin.

Yes indeed. Whomever designed the car is very talented in that regard. However, the marketing team has to be pure California public education inspired. Thank God I received my California education prior to the illiberal teaching of the early 70’s and 80s.

I have a great marketing idea for Fiskar or for the Volt. Buy an EV, get fire insurance for free.
