Do you know that the Republican Party for most of its existence was a PROTECTIONIST party? From the time of Lincoln forward? Now our Republican leaders don’t seem worried about the outsourcing of our jobs to China, because it’s (wrongly) considered part of “free trade”.
Bring back Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt. They wouldn’t put up with our jobs being shipped to slave-wage countries.
And just a little bit more... done by the ‘right’ people, no less... will fix the problem.
Yet who believes that? The one’s most devastated by it, of course.
I’ve said that we Americans are ripe for a demogogue, and this is just more evidence of it. All a politician has to do to win is say that they’ll fix all your problems, but only if you give him the power to do so.
Bush... with the TSA, Prescription Drug coverage, and the the Patriot act (”Save us from terrorists and raising health costs!” we cried. Give me the power to do it, he said. And we gratefully handed over our rights and freedoms and money to have the *GOVERMENT*, for Pete’s sake, take care of us.)
Obama... with the Obamacare; draconian control over the auto, power, oil, coal, banking, credit, medical, internet,, and other sectors of our economy; civil defense corp of brownshirts, legal assassination and indefinite detention of American citizens; bailouts and exemptions to the law for political contributions; expanded control but the TSA, et al.
(”Save us from terrorists, fiscal crisis, health care costs, uncertain economic conditions, etc, etc!” we cried. And gladly we Americans handed over our control over these things to the *government*!)
And now we complain of the chains we Americans *GLADLY* put on.
The founding fathers were right, suffrage should *NEVER* be a universal right. Those who would gladly wear chains should not have the ability to force others to do so as well.
My tagline has been accurate since I joined...
