I want a blow by blow! From the way they made it sound, it’s not just going in & casting a vote & leaving...you stay while the votes are counted & then people try to sway others to their candidate & alliances form etc. until there is a clear winner. It sounded like a lot of drama so I thought it would be interesting for us who have never seen it to have Iowa FReepers tell us their experiences.

Sure - I’ll respond back tomorrow night. I think the Dems have more drama than we do. The last one I attended involved hearing a representative of each candidate speak, then voting, then choosing delegates, talking about platform, etc.

Oh, right, that makes sense the Dems would be the ones with the drama, especially in 08 with Hillary & 0bama.

Thanks, I hope you have good weather & a pleasant evening for doing your civic duty.

We live just outside a town of around 5,500. Since we aren’t in the city limits we have a very small precinct. During the last caucus our precinct had eight people. Tonight we had around 48, so it was quite a crowd. It appeared that all precincts in our town had more that expected. The whole town met at the high school and then we split into separate areas (based on precinct).
We began by saying the pledge and then people were given five minutes each to speak on behalf of candidates. We had three speakers, two for Santorum and one for Ron Paul. After they spoke our county sheriff who lives in our precinct spoke about his desire to continue in his elected position. Then we voted by paper ballot for the candidates. They were printed on paper and we put them in a Christmas gift bag. Then as the meeting continued a couple of people counted the votes. We voted 22 for Santorum, 6 Romney, 9 Paul, 4 Bachman, 8 Gingrich.
After the voted we selected delegates to the county convention. It was hard to find people to do it, however, you could tell that there was concern about sending a Ron Paul supporter to the convention. The delegates can vote for whomever they want.
Finally, we brought up issues we want on the platform. The main topic of discussion was Israel. We spent some time on jobs and spending.
As I said - there isn’t much drama for us! :-)

Thank you for your report! I did remember you all in prayer this evening. God deliver us from evil, for we are certainly mired in it as a people.
