Facebook Cited in One-Third of Divorces
BJL ^ | 1/2/12 | John Stevens

Facebook is becoming a major factor in marriage breakdowns and is increasingly being used as a source of evidence in divorce cases, according to lawyers.

The social networking site was cited as a reason for a third of divorces last year in which unreasonable behaviour was a factor, according to law firm Divorce-Online.

The firm said it had seen a 50 per cent jump in the number of behaviour-based divorce petitions that contained the word ‘Facebook’ in the past two years.

I was at a home this weekend where the couple are divorcing. I witnessed first hand the hurt on the angelic face of their little girl (who is caught in the middle of all of this).

It was heartbreaking.

Divorce is terrible, and I don't wish it on anyone, but it seems we have grown way too tolerant of this "option."

That’s a facebook success story. I am sure more than a few people have been thankful after such a search.

Keep up the good fight in N.Y. I am originally from that area. I used to debate liberals all the time. They were completely shocked that anyone could disagree with them — at least anyone with a full set of teeth and a college education. LOL. New Yorkers often are very condescending towards Southerners. Aside from that bit of snobbery, I always admired the spunky nature of most New Yorkers.

I now live in Texas and I definitely feel more at home here.
The state government steals less of my income and I can own just about any firearm that I want. I just feel more freedom here.

Nonetheless, there are many things I miss about New York (pizza, the Mets, the Museum’s and the beaches), but the nanny-state liberalism isn’t one of them.

Oh no, you’re a Mets fan!!!

So is my husband who was born in the Bronx. There’s something communistic about a Bronx-born man supporting the Mets, lol. I was raised a Yankees fan.

Yes, New Yorkers are VERY provincial. I love to shock them by simply disagreeing with them.

What I love about New York is very much along the same lines as you. The theatre above all. In so many ways it is the greatest of cities - the cultural hot spots, the restaurants, the humor...and it can also be the dregs. I think that’s why I never get tired or bored with it. Cheers!

“I looked up an old boyfriend once! Boy, made me really glad I married somebody else.”

I looked up all my old school mates and just laughed because they were all so OLD!!! Ha ha. Jokes on me.

Facebook should be outlawed if it would save just one child. S/

I could have written your reply, and I can add that any opposite sexed “friends” I take on have to be related to me- other than my solidly married pastor. I consider FB a ministry tool- one of many I use for seed sowing!

Hubby and I are “friends” with no secrets. :o)

You might be able to get a divorce on no fault, but if the other party faults you’re going to get more of the assets.

Who hasn’t googled or facebooked an old flame out of curiosity?

Well, I haven't. But then I'm happily married.

Besides, all my old flames are probably married, and I don't know their married names.

I have two really great pastors at the church I belong to that I’m facebook friends with and one is in the hospital right now, having some kind of tumor in his brain and he’s been communicating with everyone using his facebook account.

Many people watch facebook like hawks for any sign of a flirtation, a change in relationship status, any little bit of information which can be collected on a former boyfriend or a current interest. I also know people who have encouraged a lot of flirting to make someone jealous. After a breakup, some of these people block and then unblock the other person just for their own manipulative purposes. You cannot know for sure what is real and what is game playing sometimes.

I’m sure the same thing was said about the telephone, once the lines became private.
