To me, it simply shows the candidate is not good enough to gather all stripes of conservatives or semi-conservatives. I always believe a good candidate will stand any kind of attacks, from left as well as from the right.

Really - Palin (back when it looked as though she was interested), Bachmann, Cain, Gingrich, in time no doubt, Santorum - you haven't noticed any kind of pattern emerging here, like, for example, every time a candidate emerges from the field they suffer a deluge of negative press after which their positives drop precipitously?

Everyone except Mitt Romney, of course, who hasn't really been scrutinized by anyone outside the consertive media?

With so many people taken in by the tactic - even some gullible conservatives - do you really think ANYONE is good enough to withstand the gang-bang the establishment of both parties and media have going on here?

I sent the Iowa Gingrich Campaign a winning strategy but they failed to follow the formula.

Stupid is as stupid does!

There are four links I had to click on to read the whole analysis but I found the below from it the most interesting :

But he was going to be smarter than the consultants and he didn’t pay enough attention to fundraising and organization and so when he got pounded he couldn’t respond.
Gingrich’s problems weren’t just on the airwaves here, though.Until an Indiana-based GOP direct mail consultant, Chris Faulkner, arrived in Iowa a week ago at the behest of a political director Gingrich only hired a week before that, the candidate had nobody here running his day-to-day caucus effort.....
He offered no discernible response to an onslaught of negative ads other than to complain about the negativity and insist that he would stay positive. Then he repeatedly undermined his own attempt to stay on the high road by criticizing his GOP rivals........
Gingrich didn’t go up on TV in Iowa until December 5th, when he unveiled a morning-in-America style spot. It was a modest buy, though, and it was barely even playing on the airwaves here by the time Gingrich returned to the state on December 14th.
By that time, Romney’s super PAC and Paul’s campaign were saturating the airwaves with a series of brutal ads attacking Gingrich for his policy shifts and past controversies.
While promising to do more ads, he was largely dismissive of the need to fight back.
“I’m going to run my campaign the way I want to and my campaign’s going to focus on positive ideas and positive solutions and I’m, frankly, taking the gamble that the American people care about actually solving our country’s problems, not just watching politicians beat each other up,” Gingrich told reporters in Iowa City......
The reason Gingrich cut short his final pre-holiday Iowa trip wasn’t just to toe-touch in New Hampshire, as he did for a few hours. It was because he had to hustle back to hold two events in Virginia that were aimed entirely at getting him the 10,000 signatures needed to be on the commonwealth’s ballot.
That was something Romney’s campaign had taken care of by having volunteers appear at polling places for Virginia’s August primary and on Election Day in November.
But Gingrich was, to use his word, “scrambling” then to meet the deadline. Appearing in Richmond the morning of Dec. 23, the deadline to file petitions, the candidate proclaimed they had gotten the requisite signatures.
Except he hadn’t. The next day, Gingrich was humiliated. Enough of his signatures didn’t match voter rolls that he was found to have less than 10,000. He wouldn’t appear on the ballot in the state he’s called home for over a decade. Romney officials pounced, mocking Gingrich for his organizational failure.”

RE :"good thing hes an insider/pol that knows how to get things done...bookies are gonna make a killin on the point spread that norelco greengrinch is shavin",

Look, Newt is going to kill Obama in those two debates. It doesn't matter that Newt didn't know how to respond to those negative ads about him in Iowa, Obama would never think of using those hundreds of millions of $$$ HE HAS ACCUMULATED for similar attack ads against the Republican candidate, Newt knows that as he is SO SMART. Nor will the Liberal independent groups launch attack ads against him. Only Romney would think of that. Newt has things in the bag.

Look, they tried to get him out of congress in 1998, how well did that work?

“Are we just supposed to believe that Gingrich, the two-time (at least) adulterer all of the sudden is the honest conservative in the race?”

Didn't hurt Bill Clinton...and yes, we all can change.
I hope we are careful who we vote for lest we all lose.

Gingrich is 4th because he was targeted by the Romney smear machine. He needs to reciprocate by kicking Romney in the shnards and keep kicking until folks started getting the message Romney he is just another establishment stooge.

Fixed it.

>> Gingrich has since admitted the Pelosi sitting was a "mistake" and that he no longer believes in AGW. <<

I wonder if he'll ever admit that endorsing Dede Scozzafava was a "mistake" when his hypocritical fans endlessly bash Santorum for endorsing Specter.

Gingrich lost me when he started floating illegal alien amnesy schemes. Let him run for office in Mexico.

You know it’s a cheap, unfounded attack when they bash you for using an “inappropriate” analogy. It’s very easy to see how Pearl Harbor is a good analogy for the Virginia ballot. Newt and the U.S. were both unprepared for the situation and they vowed to fight back harder after a major defeat. Using analogies is a sign of intelligence. Not understanding analogies is a sign of stupidity.

The article claims Romney “took care” of his signatures well in advance. Then why did Romney also not turn them in until the day they were due himself?

There’s not much else in this article except that Romney has more money than Newt. No crap. Romney’s been running for 5 years and Newt only within the last month earned the support to start building his campaign.

Also gotta love how they bash Newt both coming and going. First they bash him for not doing enough fundraisers. Then when he does a fundraiser, they say he should’ve been campaigning in Iowa at that time instead.

They also claim “all” Newt did on one day was release a 3-minute ad about George Washington. Just because Politico doesn’t like the ad, doesn’t mean it was Newt “taking the day off” as they implied. That ad is far more positive and beneficial to anyone who views it as compared to anything put out by the Romney campaign.

He blew it by being himself. His poll numbers went up briefly as voters gave hm a second look and that’s all over now. He may even be in single digits today. A couple of weeks ago I said it would be Romney, Paul, Santorum and Gingrich, now I think Santorum will be second - a close second.
