2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

Fox just reported the preliminary results and it seems Bachman will finish dead last — BEHIND HUNTSMAN, ouch.

Newt’s been savaged by attack ads. He has to return fire. For all the talk that people don’t like them, attack ads work unfortunately.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. I was getting sick of her vicious attacks on everyone but Romney.

No one who is under 45 is shocked that Paul is beating Santorum 58 to 10 with the under 30 vote. I wish there was a breakdown of the Gen X vote.

The big government credit card is being taken away here.

The Dems who don’t like Obama can vote against him in the general election. In the meantime, I don’t want Democrats eliminating Republican first choices in the primaries (or “caucuses”).

“Oh, goodie, I’m not odd duck out! Glad you aren’t watching FAUX.”

I didn’t want to add to their numbers watching. Hope millions of others watch CSPAN instead of Fox tonight.

“used our platform”

is what I really resent. Ron Paul, and other LIBertarians, can’t get anywhere with the LIBertarian Party, so they USE the GOP to spew their garbage, and try to get elected.

Just to show you how much closer things are, by this time in 2008, they’d already called it for Huckabee as the runaway winner.

Well, I’m one of those young’uns, and I’ll tell you why Paul’s getting blown out with us.

First and foremost, he would end this massive debt spiral that is going to destroy our futures.

the disfunctional old folks have spent all their money and are spending our money and will bankrupt us to feed their entitlements.

Dollars and sense, his message resonates.

But what do I know? I’m just a disfunctional young’un.

At the end when all the votes are in, I will repost the county-by-county document and look to see where the caucus vote was manipulated.

I’m watching Egypt’s Golden Empire on PBS and getting updates here. My kids and I were watching old Mission Impossible episodes earlier.

It makes perfect sense: Obama soared with Millennials because, and I stress because, he opposed the expensive foreign wars. Now, he is collapsing and Ron Paul is soaring because of the expensive foreign wars.

Millennials and Gen X’ers don’t like the expensive foreign wars. They don’t like big government. Paul is to the right of every candidate on big government spending programs of every species whether it be corporate welfare or military welfare or elderly welfare.

I'm wondering if the college campuses pulled a reverse of “Operation Chaos” and democrats registered as Republicans to vote?

The Occupy Crowd on steroids for Obama.

Cato in PA..her voice was irritating enough and when she got in her attack mode against Newt and Perry it was like scraping chalk on a blackboard. Thank heavens she is going to be out of the race soon. Wish she would take Huntsman, Paultard and Romney with her..lol but that won’t happen.

According to the FB live map...

Santorum leads in 14 counties, including adjacent to Omaha.

Paul in 9; mythster in 7.

Caveat - not accounting for population centers, other than Santorum’s county near Omaha.
