it is quite a surreal place, large tracts of the country are covered in geologically recent lava fields. I remember one hill near lake myvatn which you could see had literally been ripped at the center and separated over time.

The country, from a landscape perspective, is unique.

I've flown over Iceland FOUR TIMES. It is absolutely mind-numbing. Everywhere else you see features like that they've been worn down by millions of years of weather.

In Iceland it's all fresh tossed out from the upper mantle.
