A wheelchair-bound woman crossing a city street in Wilmington, Delaware, was struck and killed by a series of three vehicles that all fled the scene.

Police were hunting on Wednesday for three drivers wanted in the hit-and-run death of Edith McFarland, 58, of Wilmington.

She was trying to get across South Market Street, a busy road near the Fairview Inn, where she had been living for the past three months, when she was struck at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Delaware State Police said.

"After the impact, McFarland was ejected from her wheelchair into the southbound lanes of South Market Street, where she was then struck by two additional vehicles," investigators said in a statement.

Police said the disabled woman was hit first by a gold truck or SUV. All three drivers fled the scene without stopping.

More than likely all three divers were illegals

The first guy absolutely knew, what he did, but without more info, perhaps the second and third did not. You can hit a lump in the road and not know it is a person.

I don’t see a crosswalk in that picture. So, she’d lost her leg due to a previous hit and run. Makes you wonder if she didn’t learn her lesson about crosswalks.

Strange that google maps show that as a one way street.

**Road noise and loud stereos really can mask things like this.**

Highly unlikely. Anyone that unaware of their surroundings is to stupid to even drive.

Road noise would mask this? Sheesh.

You mean the cars did this all on their own? Are they the offspring of "Christine"?

That's why we need amnesty...oops, I mean a "path to citizenship"...for these poor immigrants, who are obviously terrified of confronting the police about accidents, lest they be deported! /s

I’m very much like you when it comes to hitting things, but a lot of people are not. Not saying the drivers innocently did not know they hit something. I’m just saying it really is possible.

What the hell is wrong with these cars?

I agree.

What a weirdly written headline.
Should we now be on the lookout for roving packs of automobiles?

Yeah, in Germany. But we’re talking the US here. ;)

“Police say the gold truck or SUV has damage to the front end and grill.”

If that turns out to be true, then at least the first driver is gonna have a hard time convincing a jury that they were unaware that they hit something.

This happens over and over in society. Remember the child who was hit in China and other people simply walked by and even ran over the child again? On a smaller scale it happens every day when people see someone having trouble (for instance, carrying something heavy) or broken down on the side of the road and don’t stop to help. Its a complete lack of a sense of community. Not to gereralize but you see it a lot more in big cities than in small country towns. People have been conditioned to have no sense of responsibility for others in the community so they just walk by, even if their actions caused part of the problem.

I notice there is no mention of a crosswalk.

Also the accident took place after dark. Based on personal experience, people in wheelchairs and mobility scooters are difficult to see at night. I nearly hit a woman in a mobility scooter once. She came riding up the shoulder on my right side. I was turning right and I checked my 3:00 position, but her head was below the level of the mirror. Had my passenger not noticed her, I would have rolled right over her when I made my turn. She cruised right on past me and straight across the busy intersection, a blot of dark shadow on a dark road in a dark night. It was scary.

Or vicious gangs of "Keep Left" signs?

In downtown Wilmington, DE, deer are about as common as unicorns...these”motorists” are just some the 50,000 to 75,000 welfare votes that keep electing Biden...most of downstate can’t stand him.

Now imagine that you were in an H2 Hummer and you had no passenger, and there were a lot of potholes. I can imagine many people not even knowing they hit something.

Some of us are so accutely aware and living “in the moment” when we drive that we feel every slight bump or groove, but many people are oblivious. It’s just a fact of life that I’ve seen played out way too much. I really can imagine someone grazing off this lady and her wheelchair and going home none the wiser. Unlikely? You bet. Possible? Absolutely.

All that said, based on where this happened I think that odds are it was a hit and run, at least for the first car.

I don’t think anyone stops in Wilmington after dark—for anything. It’s a race to get out before the street denizens take over.

She came riding up the shoulder on my right side.

Do you know how many bicyclists get killed that way? The other trick for bicyclists is to drive on the left side of the road, so they can see on coming traffic. Problem is, they surprise motorists at intersections. I almost hit a chubby little female cyclist like that once.

He couldn’t make up his mind, so you hit him? LOL

Old insurance joke for what happened on accidents.

Still, pretty bad that three people, at least, didn’t seem to have enough HughManatee to stop and give or get care...

Totally true.

Even during the day on the mall.

My favorite memory of living there, well I lived in Greenville by the witch, was the sign as you entered town:

“Wilimington, A Place to be Somebody”.....

And then you drive right through a crime ridden neighborhood of druggies and thieves.

Always had my my head and eyes on the lookout every time I got to a stop sign before I got to the other side.
