Gingrich: I don't own a vacation home in New Hampshire because, unlike some people, I am not rich

The “unlike some people” part isn’t stated, merely implied. But c’mon. He’s laying it on with a trowel here.

----------- Less than 12 hours after finishing in fourth place in the Iowa caucuses, Newt Gingrich opened a new, more aggressive chapter in his campaign, taking pointed shots at rivals Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, who both finished ahead of Gingrich. At one point, Gingrich hinted he would make Romney’s personal wealth an issue, telling a reporter “I’m not rich.”…

When asked why he chose to congratulate Santorum and not Romney on his caucus success, the former House speaker said, “I find it amazing the news media continues to say [Romney’s] the most electable Republican when he can’t even break out of his own party.… The fact is, Gov. Romney in the end has a very limited appeal in conservative party.”

Later, in a campaign stop in Laconia, Gingrich’s kept up his attack – and it got personal. Asked by a local reporter if he would buy a home in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, where Romney has a summer home, Gingrich replied, “No, I can’t afford things like that, I’m not rich.” His wife, Callista, added a jab at Romney as well. “We have one home,” she demurred. The Romneys own two summer homes, including one in California. ------------------

Surely a man eligible for a six-figure line of credit at Tiffany’s has the means to buy himself a cottage in the sticks. Or maybe more: I’ll bet $1.6 million from Freddie Mac would get you something nice and airy in Hanover. This is the second time that Gin

How is it unhinged when he’s just doing to Romney what Romney did to him? The only difference I see is that Romney uses surrogates and Newt handles it himself.

Yeah, this crybaby routine of his has totally turned me off. UGH.

But yes, I'd still vote for him if he were the nominee, as I would any of them.

I always considered it a mistake for Gingrich to have turned down that book deal in the 90s. I think Newt was offered 4.8 million but the media called it a connection deal and he let it go, the media didn’t mention that the second bid had been 4.1 million.

The Clintons went on to (5 to 8?) million dollar book deals not very long after the media beat down Newt.

It does not matter who he is referring to. He is unhinged to “resent” richness. When did Republicans resent wealth made by ones self efforts?

Just for some perspective:

“By 2007 Romney and his wife had a net worth of between $190 and $250 million, most of it held in blind trusts. An additional blind trust existed in the name of the Romney's children and grandchildren that was valued at between $70 and $100 million as of 2007. The couple's net worth remains in the same range as of 2011, and was still held in blind trusts.”

“Newt Gingrich had a net worth of at least $6.7 million and income of at least $2.6 million in 2010, according to financial disclosure forms that were released Monday.”

I do consider $7 million as “rich” - but an overall family wealth of $260 to $350 million is REALLY rich.

I think I will try to get rich, too. ;-)

Perhaps Newt wanted to play by Reagan’s rules to never speak ill of a fellow Republican, but he made one major mistake IMO, and that’s that Romney ain’t no Republican.

Romney is a RINO. Speak ill all you wish Newt. Open up, and let the broadsides begin.

When he slams people who are rich, it does matter. He can go down the gutter bashing Romney all he wants. But, bashing the rich and resenting wealth is truly Un American.

"He needs to be nice to Romney. /s"

He can be as negative as he wants, but please do it with the same intelligence that he displayed in the debates.

Newt's anger has caused him to become unhinged, in my opinion.

Newt has shown a side of himself that I didn't know existed.

He's like a spoiled brat who can't get his own way.

"I'm the smartest.
I'ts my nomination!
Didn't you hear me months ago?
I'm going to be the nominee!
It's mine! It's mine! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!"

That about sums it up.

So, as long as he was not referring to Romney, it is fine for him to resent richness? That is the whole point of me posting it. Newt is an elite liberal (class war fare) guy who uses every chance he gets to bash rich and capitalists.

He did not say he was not rich. Just that he was not rich enough like others to buy a lake home in New Hampshire. :)

bashing the rich and resenting wealth is truly Un American.

Maybe so, but it is in such cases utterly inconsequential and it wins elections. What could win this election would be if the GOP candidate turned this meme against the RATS, by showing how it is THEY who represent the rich, while the GOP represents the middle class. Otherwise, the usual stereotypes will play, (GOP for the rich, RATS for the people!), and they always play out against the Pubbies who show themselves defenseless. As I said, such talk is inconsequential, as when in power both parties favor the rich, anyway, with the Pubbies disfavoring the unions a bit.

Now tell us who your clown is, and why you really hate Gingrich. Full disclosure.

Newt unhinged. So much for the "New Improved Newt".

You got that right. Maybe next, multi-millionaire Newt will put on his best John Edwards impersonation and lecture us on the two Americas.
