Angry Newt In Check; Professor Gingrich Re-Emerges Wed. Night
IBD's Capital Hill ^ | 1/4/2012 | Sean Higgins

Which Newt Gingrich would show up? That was the question on most people’s minds — OK, mine — as we waited for him to appear at a town hall event at St. Anselm College’s New Hampshire Institute of Politics Wednesday evening.

Would it be the calm, above-the-fray political sage that Gingrich has lately tried to will himself into being? Or the partisan bomb-thrower of yore that we all know from the 1990s?

After his fourth-place finish in Iowa the night before and his subsequent concession speech/declaration of war on Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, my own expectation was on the latter. Gingrich had tried niceness and it just didn’t seem to suit him.

“Or the partisan bomb-thrower of yore that we all know from the 1990s?”

That is the one who gets things done.

So why shouldn’t Newt get pissed? Its refreshing to see someone prepared to give it hell where hell is due...

An individual who is running as a candidate for a particular party is by definition "partisan".

Use of this word makes it a hit piece.

Somehow Newt will have no problem kicking Romney in the butt. Romney and his organizations has been telling half truths about Newt that is equivalent to a blatant lie. Romney is similar to King Obama in his slick sales oil salesmen approach that I do not and never will trust him. He is a liar.

I find a lot admirable about Newt but this is a legitimate criticism. Don’t you remember the 90s? Newt did a great job of winning Congress — absolutely brilliant — and pushing a Conservative agenda through the House. But I also remember cringing when he shot his mouth off time after time after time. Did the press misconstrue it? Yes. But he should know better. He speaks before he thinks and can get nasty and vindictive.

I think Newt’s greatest strength is his knowledge of history and command of facts and data, all he’s got to do is stay cool and let the facts do the talking and he’ll cream Romney, who relies on being glib and dodging the facts.

I do think Newt was off his game Tuesday night. He looked tired, sick, or both, and everyone has bad days.

“He looked tired, sick, or both, and everyone has bad days.”

I can’t remember which radio jock it was, but one mentioned that Newt has in fact been sick.

Here’s one Newt should use from Huckabee telling the
truth about Romney. Now I know why Huckabee won Iowa
in 2008. No one this time around dared to tell the
truth about Romney. It cost them big time last night.

Newt does look ill. I watched a campaign stop in Iowa on CSPAN and he looked bloated and pasty. Next to his painted, starched haired wife, they looked silly. I am not normally a stickler for appearance, this goes directly to electability. We live in a shallow world, and if Newt is sick, that is unfortunate, if Newt is just out of shape, that goes to motivation and discipline. Nancy Reagan regularly put Ronnie on a diet, it is politics 101.

I think he is presently fighting flu. I wish he would disappear the wife. Big negative. I really detest family as stage prop approach anyway. I don’t care about a politician’s family. I care about their policy, period.

One of the things I really liked about Laura Bush was her discreet profile, at least while they were in the White House.

Need to quit posting for a while. That had more ‘I’s per sentence than an Obama speech.

Romney is a herky-jerky speaker. His speech habits make me nervous. He talks fast and is excitable. I watched the people at one of his venues in Iowa. They gave him odd looks.

I would suggest saying things that put him on edge and see to it he gets all worked up.

Come from an angle he hasn’t prepped for.

Mitt Romney has a glass jaw, which was much in evidence during an interview with Bret Baier a few weeks ago.

Romney was angry to be asked a solid but fair question about the individual health care mandate. He even chased down Baier after the show, and bitched about it. Baier told the story to Bill O'Reilly on his show.

But Romney's reaction on-screen was so bizarre it was jarring.

When I saw it live that night my immediate reaction was "Holy S___, this guy is not right in the head".

Note the weird grin, strange cackling laugh and the odd looking physical movements in reaction to the question which begins around 6:55 in this clip:

Well I guess you will be voting for Willard then because this is going to shake out into a two man race. Newt and Willard.
