WSJ: Can Perry Come Back?
Wall Street Journal ^ | January 5, 2012 | Stephen Moore

Posted on 01/05/2012 1:16:43 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

National conservative leaders are wondering who, if anyone, can stop Mitt Romney from walking off with the Republican nomination after his narrow win in Iowa and his expected comfortable victory in New Hampshire next week. The name that keeps surfacing is Rick Perry, which says a lot about the desperation that the anti-Romney forces are feeling now.

[snip]

Perry insiders say that the plausible course forward for the candidate is to make this a one-on-one race with Mr. Romney so that the conservative vote doesn't split in two, three or four ways.

South Carolina has a history of deciding the eventual GOP primary winner. If Mr. Perry can take first or second place, he can live to fight another day and prepare for Super Tuesday, when voters in the bulk of Southern states go to the polls. Perry supporters also say that a comeback depends on his ability to make this a North versus South race. They say that three-quarters of Republican voters aren't sold on Mr. Romney. The problem for Mr. Perry, of course, is that even more voters aren't sold on him, either, in part because he has done such a lousy job of educating voters about his admirable record on jobs and growth in Texas.

Many conservative leaders that I talked to after the Iowa caucuses are rallying around the latest flash, Rick Santorum. But others have concluded that despite all of his debate mishaps and his poorly run campaign thus far, Mr. Perry may be the only Republican candidate capable of beating Mr. Romney. As one campaign aide told me: "We have to make a good second impression."

Is the guy in question one of the staff members that he got from Newt?

I am not familiar with the history of the specific staffers. But from what I have read, the campaign is in disarray. Some of it is Perry, but some of it has to be the staffers as well. Failing to get on the VA ballot is solely an issue with the staff. And once again, this wasn’t Politico, this is a Perry supporting prominent blogger.

Didn’t everyone except for Romney and Paul fail to get on the Virginia ballot? Wasn’t that Virginia’s fault?

I’m sorry, but Perry had the money to pay for staff to get out and get a sufficient margin over the 10,000 required to ensure surviving challenges. His campaign had no excuses for not getting 15,000 signatures just to be safe.

You are right about that but Perry has some really good conservative ideas, we should all be sorry if he doesn’t get to use them.

Well, quite frankly, he has to get serious about running. I don’t feel he has been to date, nor does he seem to understand the level of commitment and preparation it takes to campaign as a GOP presidential candidate.

And this was posted later that morning by the lead Perry operative on FR.

Which proves my point.

Seriously, you are going to claim that actions taken *AFTER* your own are the cause of your actions that were taken before the thread you blame even existed?

Where did you learn debate? From HAMAS?

Ok, I'll post the links where the same Perrybot was bashing Santorum beforehand. Plenty of those as well. As well as others bashing Santorum.

You Perrybots are just mad because I made your modus operandi, which is transparent as can be.

This is so funny. The other Perrybot ankle-biter mentioned the below thread in his ongoing fusillade against me (never mind that he failed to back up his initial allegation against me):

Get Ready to Hear All About Rick Santorum and Universal Health Services

And it was posted by? Cincy's Wife.

Even the sentence on mine that he cut-and-pasted into this thread alluded to that:

I am suggesting to CW that she spend more time promoting Perry and less time bashing the other candidates. "Hardly an unreasonable request."

And the article in question was a classic Red-State hatchet job against Santorum, most likely at the behest of the campaign.

So I had ample justification for believing that the Perrybots on FR were using this platform as part of an orchestrated attack against Santorum. Not only were they already doing it, they had also already done it against Cain and Newt. In other words, anyone who pulled ahead of Perry in the polling. For any Perrybot to pretend otherwise is the height of dishonesty.

Uh, yeah, CW, I do. The blogger is Erick Erickson of Red State. I know you are familiar with him, you have used his hatchet-jobs on the other candidates, and I just linked to one of those instances here.

Man, this is just too funny. You are such counter-attack mode that you can't even be bothered to take 30 seconds to click on the link in question to see who I am talking about.

Want some cheese with that whine? I know from past experience that you are too chickensh** to admit when one of your stupid gambits backfires on you. So your response is always to try and change the subject. So predictable.

Yeah, CW, it's such a wilderness that you came in here yourself to counterattack.

You're funny when you lose it due to your own impotence.
