Romney is ‘center to center left,’ says GOP freshman Rep. West
By Pete Kasperowicz - 01/05/12 05:05 PM ET

The freshman Republican doesn’t see the GOP front-runner as a conservative.

Freshman Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) said this week that he sees Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney not as a conservative on the right, but as someone who is “center to center left.”

“Let’s be very honest,” West told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “He did govern a blue state in Massachusetts, so I think that how he presented himself as a New England Republican is probably different from what a person would see as a Republican or definitely a conservative when you come down into the Bible Belt, the Southeast and maybe even the Midwest.”

Still, West left open the possibility that Romney would govern more from the right should he win the GOP nomination and defeat President Obama.

“The guy, he governed a certain way in Massachusetts,” West said. “And I think that everyone believes in redemption. So you can come back and recreate yourself, and how he would govern the United States of America would probably be a lot different.”

Romney won the Iowa GOP caucuses by just eight votes over Rick Santorum, and is expected to easily win the New Hampshire primary next Tuesday.

Santorum/West?

Yes.

Or, West/Santorum. Too late for that, though.

The RINO party bosses seem to be picking candidates who are on the left side of the spectrum. Last time out it was McQueeg. Heaven forbid we have a true Conservative on the ticket.

I remember entering Massachusetts in 1977, the only time I've been there, and seeing a big sign at the border that said: "NO GUNS."

West has lost his damn mind.

What? I think Allen West is one of the last few true good guys, meaning real Americans, around.

If you are center left, then you are left of center. If you are left of center, you are a democrat/liberal. I don’t think Romney is by any means the most conservative, candidate, but this is just getting ridiculous. All this internal mud slinging is fun, but really, we republicans are the worst at vetting our candidates. All we do is break them down and smear candidates we don’t like, or disagree with. It’s fun in small doses, but it’s really getting old and bordering on dangerous. If we’re turning fellow republicans off from candidates, what do people think is happening to the independent undecided votes?

Romney is a big time liberal… there's no excuse for how he governed. If he becomes President he will bend over backwards for the libs in congress just like he did for the libs in Mass. And a lot of the liberal things he did were WILLINGLY on his own (nominating openly gay activist judges) There IS such a thing as standing up for conservative values & principles (but Romney has none of those things so…).

Notice the "center to center left" quote is not given in context, but merely excerpted.

Here is another quote from the article from West:

“The guy, he governed a certain way in Massachusetts,” West said. “And I think that everyone believes in redemption. So you can come back and recreate yourself, and how he would govern the United States of America would probably be a lot different.”

Again, just being a realist here, and not a "Romneybot", I think West has a point.

I've said it numerous times: ANY of our candidates (and I include the ones I dislike the most: Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman) would be better than four more years of Hussein.

My theory: Hussein HATES America. And as bad as some of them are, NONE of the Republican candidates hate America. That fact alone motivates me to vote Republican.

As much as we all want a good president, when it comes to electability you need a good VP candidate to take the campaign to the opposition. With his knowledge and his refusal to accept "liberal" premises, Newt has real promise as #2 on a ticket. Allen West would also be very good, albeit for different reasons, in that role.
Or, West/Santorum. Too late for that, though.
