For vision and national unity, Huntsman for GOP nominee (Boston Globe endorses Huntsman)

. . . Among the candidates, only two stand out as truly presidential, Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman. Both have track records of success, and both, through their policies and demeanors, have shown the breadth of spirit to lead the nation. But while Romney proceeds cautiously, strategically, trying to appease enough constituencies to get himself the nomination, Huntsman has been bold. Rather than merely sketch out policies, he articulates goals and ideals. The priorities he would set for the country, from leading the world in renewable energy to retooling education and immigration policies to help American high-tech industries, are far-sighted. He has stood up far more forcefully than Romney against those in his party who reject evolution and the science behind global warming.

With a strong record as governor of Utah and US ambassador to China, arguably the most important overseas diplomatic post, Huntsman’s credentials match those of anyone in the field. He would be the best candidate to seize this moment in GOP history, and the best-prepared to be president.

A RINO? Huntsman? Not according to his record he isn’t.

I’d love to make a comparison of Jon Huntsman’s record with that of Mitt Romneys.

Well, I guess we know what Massachusetts thinks of Romney.

Can you win your own state Myth?

funny you should mention that...

Spoke with a relative from the Bay State ( not near Boston ) and they noted they heard Romney ruffled a lot of feathers in the Boston area. Their maybe no real love here.

The question begs, does that leave him potentially really screwed in NH?

Boy, that would be suprised if he does worse than expected or outright comes in 2nd....

Ya heard it here 1st...

“He has a FAR more conservative record than most people here will admit. From being a tax-cutting governor, having a consistently solid pro-life record, an excellent pro-gun record, to a bold economic plan which tackles ‘Too Big To Fail’ banks with market solutions.

Huntsman over Romney by a mile. In fact, in my opinion, Huntsman over all the candidates by a mile.”

I watched him in the debate. He was impressive in his confidence, knowledge and clear expression. I found him personable in a somewhat aloof and cool way. Nothing wrong with that, and much better than most politicians.

As for his policies he could only be called a conservative in the post-Bush ideological wreckage of the GOP and hyphenated-conservatism. He is a classic cold war liberal. That -is- about as conservative as any neocon, but doesn’t meet my standards. He would have perfectly fit into the JFK administration - same strengths same weaknesses. But I would color him the same as an extinct species, the patriotic Democrat.

I concur with you on Huntsman over Romney by a mile. I disagree on Huntsman over any of the other candidates by a mile. I could support Huntsman in the general, whereas if Romney gets in it is war with the GOP just the same as it is war with the Democrats.
