AURORA, Colo. -- One person was killed and three wounded in a gunfight at a check-cashing-tobacco store in Aurora on Friday afternoon.

The gunfire erupted during an apparent robbery of the store, according to police.

"Two suspected robbers were shot as well as two employees in the store," said Aurora police spokeswoman Cassidy Carlson.

She said two armed men entered the business with the intention of robbery and were spotted by two employees, but it is too early to determine who fired first.

A witness told 7NEWS reporter Marc Stewart that a wounded gunman fell to ground near a trash bin outside of the business. 7NEWS photojournalist Alan Stedman said he saw a pile of money next to a trash bin in the alley behind the business.

The injured employees and suspects were taken to the hospital where one of the suspects was pronounced dead.

The shooting was reported at about 2 p.m. at 9445 East Colfax Ave., according to police.

A witness told 7NEWS that she was in the business when it was robbed and that one of the robbers held a gun to her head. The woman was not injured.

Police were questioning the driver of a red Dodge sport utility vehicle who took one of the injured gunmen to a hospital.

Police recovered weapons inside the business, Stewart reported.

In 2009, a clerk in the same store shot and killed an armed robber during a robbery attempt.

On Dec. 15, Forbes.com ranked Aurora as the ninth-safest city in the United States. The Forbes ranking was based on violent crime rates from the FBI and traffic fatality rates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

I was reminded of this story (a few days old) after reading about the 18 year old woman in OK and the 14 year old boy in NC taking care of business. All of these people should be given medals. They've made society safer, saved tax dollars, and saved lives.

The armed robbers were trying to defend themselves against the aggressive victims.

What possible difference could that make? Criminals engaged in violent criminal behavior (like armed robbery)are yours to shoot as you will. The government loving anti-gun media is implying that it should make a difference.
