Santorum: Trim Social Security now even if painful

KEENE, N.H. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum called Friday for immediate cuts to Social Security benefits, risking the wrath of older voters and countless others who balk at changes to the entitlement program.

"We can't wait 10 years," even though "everybody wants to," Santorum told a crowd while campaigning in New Hampshire and looking to set himself apart from his Republican rivals four days before the New Hampshire primary.

Most of his opponents have advocated phasing in a reduction and say immediate cuts would be too big a shock to current and soon-to-be retirees.

Only in the eyes of morons, socialist pigs and other assorted dipshits has Santorum stained his drawers. So there is no doubt you occupy one of those august groups.

Yes it is. But I planned during the 48 years of my working life on getting it, and I am. So Santorum is finished. I'll help destroy any chance he may have on getting elected.

Same here. I'd still vote for him against Obama but not in the primary.

My dad worked from inception of S.S. until the day he died and never saw a dime of his money back. I'm 66 and have been getting an S.S. check for four and a half years. I want to live long enough to get back what I paid in plus interest, then live a bit longer to collect dad's too.

Any of you youngins reading this, keep working and paying, I'm a greedy old coot.

A lot of "poor" older people have paid off houses and many other tangible assets but little income and call themselves "poor".

How dare they have a house that is paid off.

What? Did I say that? You try living off of $1600 a month, even if your house is paid for, you dolt!

Note how none of these concerned Rick S haters /posters question a report from well known hard left AP Obama operative named Charles.

The AP did the same hit and run pieces/ lies on Perry and
Cain etc.. but these posters some how ignore all !

It’s a sea of posters here to trash Rick S and it does not matter that it’s a lie .
Pretty sad

“Entitlements are a HUGE problem in the US.”

Social Security is not an Entitlement...as long as you think so, you are part of the problem. If my 15% (my and my employer’s contribution) had been invested at the unreasonable low level of 5%, I would be able to live comfortably on the interest and have hundreds of thousands to pass on to heirs...even after paying medical expenses, if I were to have any.

And btw, the reason medical expenses are way out of line in this country, is because the FDA/AMA/Drug Cartels want us all to be unhealthy and to be on all kinds of prescription drugs. They love Medicare and Medicade (Medicade is an entitlement program) because it makes them all wealthy. The FDA/AMA/Drug Cartels are evil, just as the real entitlement programs are evil.

Sell your house and use that to live off of, rent a nice small condo in Fla and get real. Most elderly can't keep up their house anyway and have to pay people to take care of it. I have never understood that. I don't know much about reverse mortgages but look into that.

This is not gonna sit very well with the cane and walker crowd.

We may walk slowly but we walk to the polls.

Is Rick Santorum doing a Gingrich now, saying everything that floats into his head. Might be time to shut up.

But if he truly means this, it changes my opinion of him for the worse.

Kamikaze statement. H’s toast! We’re stuck with Romney. Time to fold up our tents and go home. First about blacks and now this about social security. Dumb as a bagful of hammers.

If if if if if if if if if.

Newsflash, it wasn't invested. It was spent. It is gone. FACE REALITY.

Ditto ! SS has become a rainy day fund for govt use, and a welfare program. I personally know people who collect, and collect more than most I know ever will, yet they never paid a dime into it! THAT is the problem with SS, not seniors who collect who have paid in all their lives.

I agree that this hurts Santorum, but there are two other candidates in the race who are conservative.

Why cede to Romney so quickly?

He truly means it, he intends to raise the retirement age by a year or so and reduce benefits for those who have high incomes. Should we hang the capitalist bastard tomorrow or Sunday?
