Most of the people who have thought seriously about this issue, ie Paul Ryan and Rick Perry want to protect benefits for people already on it or within 8 to 10 years of retirement.

That’s only fair.

Cutting benefits would hurt older people. There is not a means test for social security, nor should there be, but for a lot of people it’s their main income.

There were no cost of living increases for 3 years until this year while everything such as gas and groceries went way up.

This is a very ill-thought out stance by Rick Santorum, but if that’s what he believes, I’m glad he told us before we voted for him.

I had high hopes for Santorum, but in this case I'm afraid he wanted to show that he can make the tough and painful decisions, instead showed that he can make the easy and dumb decisions.

As has already been said, and as has been the subject of previous threads, Medicaid and Medicare are greater future liabilities than SS.

And what sort of painful cuts does Rick plan for those, or for Section 8 housing, or food stamps and welfare? Guess he hasn't thought that far.
