After spending at least 15 minutes on contraception and gay marriage, Newt finally had enough and told the media the bigotry question goes both ways and that there’s more “anti-Christian bigotry out there than there is concern on the other side” that the media ignores:

I'm proud of Newt for stepping up like that. Time for all of us to step up and I'm going to do it right now. I'm sick and tired of the whining I see on FR and elsewhere about how the GOP "elites" are "forcing" Romney down our throats.

There is not a single, solitary thing stopping any person who considers themselves a conservative from voting for Newt or Rick Santorum, both very conservative men. No one is holding a gun to any voter's head to force them to mark their ballot for Romney or anyone else.

Candidates self-select. They decide for themselves whether or not to step into the ring we call elective politics. Numerous potential GOP candidates decided not to run. These are the people who stepped up. Like all human beings, they each have their flaws and their strengths, but if we reject them all we will have nothing. Obama wins in a cakewalk.

Right here on FR, a bastion of very conservative politics, every single Republican candidate and potential candidate has had his or her detractors. To hear some people tell it, there is not a single worthy Republican in the country. To some, every Republican is a "RINO," and that's utterly shallow, moronic thinking.

Conservatives do not win consistently and do not advance their agenda for one reason, and one reason only. They ALWAYS make desire for an impossible perfection the enemy of the good. ALWAYS. Secondarily, they have no patience for incremental change which, in a nation of 300+ million, is the only sure way to political success. In other words, they have no patience for governing, but they will sit on the sidelines and carp, bitch and moan about what other people are trying to do.

Well, while conservatives are sitting around whining, at least the people on that stage tonight put themselves into the arena. They stepped up. And there is nothing stopping conservatives from rallying to at least one of them except stupid insistence on unattainable perfection. Just pick one and go for it. And while you're at it, bear this in mind:

Not only did Newt tailor it for maximum impact, he did it extemoraneously. He can think on his feet and is the least likely to end up stuttering during a serious debate. I’d love to give the People an opportunity to be able to compare Obama’s “massive intellect” to Newt. If Newt is the one, I bet Obama severely restricts andy “debates” and that they will be managed so as to tilt the playing field heavily in his favor. ‘Twould be a glorious thing to behold.

Funny thing about having been told you can’t succeed /Once one makes the determination that they have NO support in the nations media-they are suddenly FREE to say whatever they KNOW to be True to begin with. Every one of the others on stage should have roundly applauded Mr.Newt for that—the looks on some faces suggests at some of them agreed but still feel beholden to the power of the press.Newt told the truth others are afraid to tell and will be ignored having told it.

Newt brought reality back to the conversation which this and then Perry coat tailed on it...it was well said and I pray the people start going for Newt in a big way.

Thanks for posting. There is no doubt in my mind that if we wish to beat Romney and then 0, Newt is the guy hands down. This is not even close. Please South Carolina, put Newt in the lead for good.

We need a fighter and a leader who is capable of communicating conservatism to motivate the electorate. Newt combines these two qualities in a way that is light years ahead of Perry or Santorum.

It was nice to hear Mitt faintly echoing what Newt said

Mitt will always support comments such as Newts as the desires of his church are to somehow convince the Christian community that their beliefs are Christian...thank goodness the majority of Christian churches today continue to see Romneys beliefs for what they are.. and that is not Christian.

I think it’s clear that Newt mopped the floor with Romney in the debates. In fact, Newt was clearly the most intelligent, experienced and forceful man on the stage. That debate really clinched it for me. I don’t agree with Newt on everything, but at least I think he’d make a fine president. He has my vote.

With the exit of Herman Cain from the scene, Newt is the candidate who has shown he can most effectively challenge and go around the mainstream media. Therefore I am leaning his direction.

We must have a candidate who can do this. We can’t play the game of the media wing of the Dem party, AKA the mainstream media.
