Packed House Attends Gingrich Event In Derry (eastern NH)

DERRY, N.H. -- It was a full house once again for Newt Gingrich in Derry on Sunday night as people stood three deep by the wall. Gingrich got a round of applause when he entered and only positive words when voters spoke to him.

Gingrich said he would challenge President Barack Obama to seven three-hour debates if he became the nominee. "To be fair, I will concede in advance, he can use a teleprompter," said Gingrich.

Gingrich spent a good amount of time comparing himself to Ronald Reagan. "Cut taxes with Reagan/Gingrich. Raise taxes with Obama. Fewer regulations under Reagan/Gingrich. More regulations under Obama," he said.

While he attacked the president, Gingrich didn't follow suit with frontrunner Mitt Romney.

"I am not going to try and match the Romney campaign's negative ads. I am prepared to say I am a Reagan conservative. He is a Massachusetts moderate. That seems to hurt almost as much as his ads," he said.

I attended this 3-hour event. I cannot remember being at a more successful campaign stop ... in 30 years. This was not an event of a "dying campaign". Big crowd ... Newt was really fabulous, crowd enthrusiasm. Newt stayed and shook hands for an hour as 300 people got in line to greet him.

If you can gauge a campaign by the size and energy of the crowd, Newt's campaign has much life!

(Derry: pop. 33,000, in Rockingham County, eastern-most of counties, near MASS.)

With 50-degree weather, New Hampshire came alive this weekend with the candidates roaming around. Did anyone see this live on CNN last night at 7pm EST?

This was not an event of a “dying campaign”.

I don’t know anyone who is saying that Newt is having a “dying campaign”. I think all 3 have an opportunity to get the nomination. Go Newt! Go Rick! Go Rick! No to Romney, Paul, and Huntsman!

Romney made his destructive move in the vaccuum of no debates where Gingrich shines. When he can speak for himself, he rallies people towards him. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

Volunteer phone calls made this event happen! Got the crowd there! What should we do on TUES if all the VOIP phones are taken, no seats at headquarters? Any new ideas for election day campaigning?

Not sure if I follow you, I suspect you’re saying that if Newt takes two or three in NH hell get the big MO he needs going into SC and FL?

At some point we need to get the race down to two men, Newt nd Romney, then the differences will shine through.

I want to see Ann Coulter eat her words, but frankly at this point I think she’ll vote for Obama before she votes for Newt.

At a larger-than-expected town hall event at Pinkerton Academy on Sunday evening, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich laid out his claim as the best Republican alternative to defeat President Obama.

Telling the audience that the country needs a conservative Reagan Republican to make an articulate case against Obama’s failed liberal policies, Gingrich touted his work helping Reagan achieve victories in the early 1980s and his role as Speaker of the House passing legislation under President Clinton in the ‘90s.

Although he spent most of his 90 minutes focused on Obama, Gingrich did make the case for why he would be a more effective nominee than perceived frontrunner Mitt Romney.

Of all the candidates, Newt is the only one who can sell conservatism. Newt’s debate comment about the discrimination against Catholic services was brilliant. None of the other candidates could have said it as well. Politics is about ideas. Dems are pushing their corrupt ideas all the time. I want someone on our side selling our ideas. Although imperfect, Newt is the only real salesman on the stage.
