Multimillionaire Romney tells stunned voters: 'I know what it's like to worry about a pink slip'
UK Daily Mail ^ | January 9, 2012 | Mark Duell

He’s worth $250million and is running for the White House, but Mitt Romney is still trying to portray himself as an ordinary down-to-earth guy. The GOP presidential candidate has been condemned for saying he has been worried about getting a ‘pink slip’ at least twice in the past. Opponents said this was a poor statement to give about job termination notices because Mr Romney has always had money to fall back on.

WHAT? Silver spoon fed Mitt's a conservative? Romneycare is conservative? Where are you getting your info?

Actually I'm talking about the moral cowards right here using the class warfare card. (And those who try to twist the argument to avoid facing their cowardice)

I think it was picked up by Chrissy Matthews yesterday when Romney said his father told him, if you can’t pay your bills, then don’t run for office... meaning? That only the rich should run for office.

They guy was flusterred yesterday. You could see the mask come off. He looked silly.

I only mentioned Sarah ‘cuz she’s front and center on your tagline.

And, no, I was just agreeing with you that paupers don’t run for prez. My communication skills are somewhat lacking this Monday AM.

I heard the absurdity late last night on the radio. It was delivered in a stammering, stuttering. confused mishmash. It was not only inane in content, it was awkwardly botched in delivery. Not even Romney can swallow Romney without choking.

If this palooka is the GOP candidate, the GOP machine will look back on the election cycles of ‘06 and ‘08 with nostalgic longing, back when they could pick up states in the South and the West.

“Landslide Barry victory incoming.”

Yep. GOP will carry Utah and possibly Arizona with this palooka. That’s about it. The most important election in the past century with the two worst candidates in our entire history, if it is down to Obama and Romney.

They are not attacking him for his success, they are attacking him for his lack of honesty. Romney NEVER feared a pink slip for any economic reason. He was born wealthy to a major auto executive who went on to run, AND OWN A HUGE PERCENTAGE, of AMC. He grew up in Bloomfield Hills, MI which makes Gross Point, Shaker Heights and many parts of Beverly Hills look like Harlem or Watts. After the ‘compulsory Mormon degree At BYU, his Daddy then went on to become governor of Michigan and bankroll his sons gold plated Harvard education in the law and Business. He then went on to work at Boston Consulting Group to learn the business of corporate raider, this lead to a position at Bain & Co and a stint as a managing partner and CEO.

He has never had a moment of economic discomfort and concern and to portray a knowledge of such fear is a LIE!

“A Romney Presidency will kill the GOP for good.”

The silver lining on the mushroom cloud.

One of the most satisfying days of my life was when I learned that the fellow who had given me a pink slip was gone 2 months later(rumors were they were for “conflict of interest and ethical reasons). I now wonder if he didn’t throw me under the bus in an effort to save his butt.

I had something similar happen to me, and when the ccmpany begged me to come back I got even more satisfaction in telling them I'd never work for them, they weren't trustworthy!

The silver lining on the mushroom cloud.

Provided that there's something already in place to replace it.

Maybe he's talking about those days of experimentation in college.

You mean the one time he actually tried soda pop?

“Robert Byrd used to crack me up when he started rambling on about growing up without indoor plumbing of electricity as a means of showing how poor he was. The problem is that when he was a kid, the majority of Americans lived the same way.”

Yes, he was quite the Foghorn Leghorn humbug. He actually was a talented bluegrass singer. I bet on judgement day he wishes he had left the Ku Klux Klan and Democrat party alone and had stuck with Bluegrass.

I was born in 64 and there were still a considerable number of Americans living without indoor plumbing. I’d guess at least 15 or 20 percent.

In the late 70s I helped my grandfather wire the bathroom for the last house in our little town that still had an outhouse. A decade later, the farm across the street from me didn’t have an indoor bathroom.

Maybe he’s lost sleep over the cost of printing all those pink slips to hand out.

Some of Mitt’s lies are more transparent than others. OK, most of his lies are pretty transparent.

I can’t watch Romney. He is almost a walking stereotype of the pushy used-car salesman type. They too tell you anything you want to hear, if it helps make a sale. He looks phony. He sounds phony.

I swear, he is the most duplicitous, least sincere looking person I’ve seen run for president. I mean, Clinton had the sincere “my heart bleeds” look down. He was 100% phony, but he had that sincere look down.

Romney is the least sincere looking person I’ve seen run for president. He looks phony as a three dollar bill.

It really sucks having King Obama on TV. He always comes off as a condescending elitest puke know-it-all. As much as I hate to see him on TV, watching used-car-salesman Romney for four years would be equally bad.

Please, Lord, give us Santorum for President. Please, Lord. I am begging here. Not tempting, just begging.

It seems that it is Romney who is saying that without personally knowing what it is like to worry about a pink slip one cannot empathize with people in that circumstance.

That is why he is (once again) stretching the truth past the point of credulity by suggesting that he indeed at some point in his very privileged life he suffered deprivations (on his mission to Paris in swanky accommodations) and financial worry.

It is a bad narrative based on an erroneous assumption. I don't care if a candidate had a privileged life - but I don't want to hear tall tales about the multimillionaire losing sleep worrying about a possible pink slip.
