VATICAN CITY, January 9, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) In his annual address to ambassadors to the Vatican today, Pope Benedict XVI warned that laws permitting abortion and undermining the traditional family are threatening the future of humanity. Speaking particularly of the West, the Holy Father said, I am convinced that legislative measures which not only permit but at times even promote abortion for reasons of convenience or for questionable medical motives compromise the education of young people and, as a result, the future of humanity.
Similarly, the pope spoke of the family, based on the marriage of a man and a woman, noting that it is not a simple social convention, but rather the fundamental cell of every society. He added: Consequently, policies which undermine the family threaten human dignity and the future of humanity itself.
Benedict noted the dark times we are living in currently due to economic and social unrest. The present moment is sadly marked by a profound disquiet and the various crises economic, political and social are a dramatic expression of this, he said. Truly the world is dark wherever men and women no longer acknowledge their bond with the Creator and thereby endanger their relation to other creatures and to creation itself.
As a solution the Holy Father proposed keeping upholding the dignity and rights of the person. (I)t seems evident to me that the best way to move forward is through the recognition of the inalienable dignity of each human person and of his or her fundamental rights, he said. Respect for the person must be at the centre of institutions and laws; it must lead to the end of all violence and forestall the risk that due concern for popular demands and the need for social solidarity turn into mere means for maintaining or seizing power.

Nice to hear some common sense once and a while, no?
This can never be overstated.
Refreshing to hear.
Unfortunately, what seems like such common sense and knowledge to us (literally one of the most “DUH” things ever)just isn’t seen that way by the evil/libreal/mis-guided of the world.
It is very easy for them to imagine a human race without families or anything like that, no father, no mother, no siblings.
You see, they have a VERY VERY easy time imagining (and wishing) a society where we are made like products, and that each product has a life-cycle, and we just go through those.
Born, development, work, research, death.
Think the rooms of clone troops and how they showed them being raised in Attack of the Clones (Star Wars 2). That is the best example I can provide. To the left, that is where they not only want to go, but the logical “next step.”
It isn’t that hard of a stretch to see humanity arranging itself in that way, which is why they are so easily confident saying a basic truth like this statement is “ridiculous” or “backward.”
It is sad. Yet another irreconcilable difference between us and them.
Those instances grow by the day...... not. looking. good. for peace in the long-term on this planet.
He is right. what next, 3 person “marriages”? “Marriages” with kids? 4 person “marriages”? I mean the term “marriage” implies 1 man 1 woman. “Marriages” within the same consanguity?
2 same sex doesn’t even come close. If they want to live together, fine. If it’s all about the insurance and being in the hospital room, there are ways to get that done.
“the family, based on the marriage of a man and a woman, noting that it is not a simple social convention, but rather the fundamental cell of every society.”
The state should not dictate that children be denied either a mother or a father through homosexual marriage.
Yes-—Homosexual “marriage” fundamentally removes the Christian paradigm—destroys Judeo/Christian Ethics and Common Sense and Natural Law Theory-—(where common sense originates). Natural Law Theory is the underlying philosophy of our Constitution—so destroying marriage will destroy our Constitution and The Rule of Law.
With “homosexual marriage” you can no longer have the basis of Just Law: Right Reason according to Nature. We will remove God’s Standards of Right and Wrong and adopt barney Frank’s stupid standard——it is moral relativism and will end up with Nuremberg Laws.
If all the smart people abort their babies... and all the dumb people breed like rabbits... then yes, the future of mankind really would be at stake
"In other parts of the world, we see policies aimed at marginalizing the role of religion in the life of society, as if it were a cause of intolerance rather than a valued contribution to education in respect for human dignity, justice and peace."
Newt touched on the same theme:
The bigotry question goes both ways and theres a lot more anti-Christian bigotry today than there is concerning the other side, and none of it gets covered by the news media.
Should the Catholic church be forced to close its adoption services in Massachusetts because it wont accept gay couples, which is exactly what the state has done? Should the Catholic church be driven out of providing charitable services in the District of Columbia because it wont give in to secular bigotry? Should the Catholic church find itself discriminated against by the Obama administration on key delivery of services because of the bias and the bigotry of the administration?
“Now, since the family and human society at large spring from marriage, these men will on no account allow matrimony to be the subject of the jurisdiction of the Church. Nay, they endeavor to deprive it of all holiness, and so bring it within the contracted sphere of those rights which, having been instituted by man, are ruled and administered by the civil jurisprudence of the community. Wherefore it necessarily follows that they attribute all power over marriage to civil rulers, and allow none whatever to the Church; and, when the Church exercises any such power, they think that she acts either by favor of the civil authority or to its injury. Now is the time, they say, for the heads of the State to vindicate their rights unflinchingly, and to do their best to settle all that relates to marriage according as to them seems good.”
—Pope Leo XIII, almost 132 years ago.
It was always a danger to have the state involved, at least in modern times, because the institution will be treated as whatever judges, pols or a majority of folks happen to think it is at the time, instead of what it actually is. A recent poll has 40% of folks thinking marriage comes from man and the state, because they have been conditioned to think little pieces of paper from the gubberment makes folks married or not.
Freegards
Right but also does islam as well as communism .
It will be time to give names
I have been saying for years that if there is nothing special about marriage being between a man and a woman; than, what is so special about the number two. You cannot utterly change the meaning of marriage for just one special interest group. Once that dam is broken, everything comes in.
I propose to get the government completely out of a church function-marriage is a sacrament given by God, not the state. Marriages should only be performed by clergy and thats it. No need to redefine it.
And the Churches need to educate those getting married a lot better than they have been. Make the counseling more rigorous and in depth. Ensure practicing the faith prior to the marriage- church attendance etc before marrying a couple. This is not a trivial undertaking, it is a vow, a covenant with God and another person. Leave the “say yes to the dress” and “bridezillas” to the civil commitment ceremonies the state can offer in lieu of marriage to those not marriage minded but wedding minded.
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LLS
yep, I agree We could even get to the point of marriages with animals...........
So why then do the Pope, Bishops and priests accept the pro-abortion politics of Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and Mario Cuomo? Do political donations to the Catholic Church trump Catholic doctrine?
mamadearest, the Pope certainly does not accept it. American bishops and priests take the cake when it comes to “living with contradictions” as the Kennedys like to put it.
