I was on a crew that installed a huge air handling system on the roof of a building at Whidbey...they were flying A-10’s out of there at the time. The roof was a great place to view airfield from....this was back in the mid ‘80’s.

Whidbey Island NAS. Brings back memories. In the mid 60s while I was working for the Naval Research Lab, we took our EC-121 on a trip to the Orient. If my memory serves me right, we left Pax River, Maryland and the first stop was Whidbey Island. The EC-121 was a Super Connie with a pot belly on the bottom and a radome on the top. It took quite a while to get to where it was going. My boss said it flew too long in one spot. All we did was an overnight on Whidbey. The next day it was on to Adak, then to Tachikawa (sp?). On to Hong Kong a few days later, by way of a stop in Okinawa due to a typhoon.

The return trip was Guam, Hickam, San Diego, Tulsa, PAX River. LBJ was to visit Oklahoma about that time & his preparatory entourage was at the Tulsa Airport.

Surprised By God

January 10, 2012

If Naomi had dreamed about returning to her former home prosperous and successful, entering Bethlehem would have been a nightmare. While living in a foreign land, she had lost her husband and two sons and returned with only her daughter-in-law Ruth and a heart full of sorrow. “Do not call me Naomi [pleasant]; call me Mara [bitter],” she told her former neighbors, “for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me” (Ruth 1:20).

But this wasn’t the end of the story. When the discouraged Naomi saw God’s hand in Ruth’s life, she said, “The Lord . . . has not forsaken His kindness to the living and the dead!” (2:20). What appeared to be a dead-end had become a doorway for these two women who had lost so much.

The Old Testament book of Ruth is a wonderful story. The brief narrative is infused with an amazing sweetness and grace as “the Lord” is mentioned time after time.

Through Naomi and Ruth, we are reminded that God works in surprising ways to make His love known and to accomplish His purposes—even during difficult times.

God’s surprises continue so we can take heart. He has not stopped showing His kindness to you and me.

He whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best—
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest. —Berg

What we see of God’s provisions teaches us to trust Him for what we cannot see of His purposes.

Read: Ruth 2:17-23

The Lord . . . has not forsaken His kindness to the living and the dead! —Ruth 2:20

Genesis 30-32

The air station also maintains a Search and Rescue Unit, flying the UH-3H Sea King helicopter, as well as two UC-12 Huron aircraft for operational support airlift and fleet logistic support.

That's incorrect as the link you posted, as well as the photo, indicates. The SAR birds are MH-60S.

Also, you're still posting the flags in the incorrect order.

Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our

military, our allies, and their families

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.
Sorry you are under a heavy work schedule.

Washington state is a beautiful place.
I love that they have the ferry system
which we do not have around here.
Don't remember if I've visited this base before.

~ Today...Areas of fog this morning.
Sunny. Highs in the lower 50s.
West winds 5 to 10 mph.

~ Tonight... Mostly clear in the evening...
Then becoming partly cloudy.
Lows in the mid 30s.
North winds around 5 mph.

Oh boy
did we have a strange weather pattern in the last 24 hours.
Started with light snow flurries yesterday, late morning-ish.
Tapered off for a bit
then started heavy again by the time I left work.
We got about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch, maybe.
If it hadn't been so warm, we might have had more
since it snowed up until 6-ish.
Can't remember the last time it snowed
like that when it was 35-36 degrees out.

Woke up this morning to foggy conditions
and temps around 33.
Fog not so bad that you couldn't see the vehicles in front of you
but it made slow going.
Roads were good shape, though.
And as you can see from above
we'll be in the lower 50s by the afternoon.

Time to make my rounds and then back to work.
But, you stay right where you are.
Don't touch that dial. And, remember – I’ll be watching!

The FR Canteen is ALWAYS

Come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee,
tea,
pancakes,
conversation,
silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM

DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above Honoring those who have served before.
