If I recall, during the Clinton administration he too signed a bill banning some sort of mining around the Grand Canyon area.......Don't remember. He did sign the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument executive order at the Grand Canyon, reducing US coal production in favor of his Indonesian pals

I see Protected made it into the title No bias here because mining is evil, and we must protect those lands from it. I'm a huge fan of protecting the enviornment, a huge fan of parks, and Grand Canyon is probably my absolute favorite. But once you've set aside the park to protect the enviornment, seems to me the issue is largely settled. Not sure what the mine problem is, probably concerned about the view for the folk who fly over rather than hiking down.
