EVERETT, Wash. -- An alleged burglar was fatally shot at a home on Monday morning.

The incident occurred at a home in the 10500 block of 21st Ave. SE at approximately 11:47 a.m.

Snohomish County sheriff's deputies said the homeowner found the stranger in his home, and a confrontation ensued. During the argument, the homeowner opened fire, hitting the alleged burglar. The person was pronounced dead minutes later.

Investigators have revealed few details about the incident.

State law allows citizens to use deadly force when protecting themselves or their homes. The prosecutor will decide whether the use of force in this case was justifiable self-defense.

Area residents say they Monday's incident caps the recent string of burglaries and car prowls.

"We moved in a couple months ago, and we've had our cars broken into," said resident Ramie Esquivel.

Jim Meyers, another resident, said his neighbor also fell victim to a car prowl.

"She had just moved in. They nailed her cars," he said. "I mean, people are doing this all the time."

Sheriff's deputies say the area has seen a slight increase in home burglaries in the past several months.

Well, I guess that will depend on the testimony of the SINGLE witness, as the alleged burglar is pining for the fjords. :)

IMHO, the homeowner should be awarded the cost of incarcerating, and legal defence of the burglar for 2 years. This would amount to approximately $150,000, or more.

Doing this, would essentially place a ‘bounty’ on burglars, and encourage homeowners to complete the mission that the Judicial branch has failed to do. The cost to taxpayers would be minimal, as the odds are fair to very good that the perp has previous convictions. This would terminate the continual cost of housing, medical and legal costs of society’s parasites; as these costs would cease to continually mount as the person is permanently removed from the criminal pool.

It would also serve to minimize the appeal of the criminal lifestye. However, I’m sure that this effort would be struck down, as it would soon be classified as ‘racist’.

Excuse me.

“An alleged burglar” was found by the legal residence inside the legal residence's home.

Sorry, but the word “alleged” should be stricken from the article and the reporter needs to be fined for abusing the English language.

The criminal justice system would never allow that because it would destroy their job security.

That’s because the Left sees the criminal as innocent and mis-understood and the law-abiding as the criminal.

That is not true. All you have to do is read the statutes and you’d know a private citizen has a broader right to use deadly force in the state of Washington than even the cops.
