Gingrich answers Rush Limbaugh
The Hill ^ | 1/10/2012 | Christian Heinze

On Fox & Friends this morning, Newt Gingrich fought back against Rush Limbaugh's criticism of his rhetoric on Bain Capital.

FOX HOST STEVE DOOCY: I was driving around yesterday in my car, and I was listening to Rush Limbaugh, and he was talking about you and how you're going after Mitt Romney and Bain Capital.

And he said that you're using the language of the Left to beat up on Romney over Bain.

He said it makes him uncomfortable because that's what the Left will do if Romney is the nominee.

GINGRICH: Well, I don't think I'm using the language of the Left. I'm using the language of classic American populism.

Main Street has always been suspicious of Wall Street, small businesses have always worried about big businesses.... and I think people have a natural concern when they see financiers come in from out of town, take over a company, take all the profits, and then leave people who are unemployed behind.

"Is capitalism really about the ability of a handful of rich people to manipulate the lives of thousands of other people and walk off with the money? Or is that, somehow, a little bit of a flawed system?"

- Newt Gingrich

Not the language of the left? Sure Newt.

Nice try. I don’t disagree with Rush often, but he is crazy if he thinks Newt is not trying to win the nomination. Rush is a very stubborn man and hates to be wrong. He will stay on this until he satisfies himself. But Rush is wrong and Newt will win this argument.

I expect to see a sign with that caption at a future OWS protest.

Tragedy for Romney... should have called off his super PAC in Iowa for attacking Newt as a Pro-Abort, tax cheat who was so EEEEEEEEvil for taking a consulting gig with Fannie Mae.

Payback is uh... well it rhymes with John Kerry.

Newt has jumped the shark. Everyone knows he is a big government Rep who believes that government can solve all of our problems. He thinks business should share their profits with their workers, not the investors and stockholders. Newt doesn’t like the idea that the “rich people” can do whatever they want with their profits and businesses. He wants them to share their gains out of a sense of social obligation and fairness. This is not much different than Obama’s spreading the wealth around comment to Joe the Plumber.

I think Newt is doing this to show how weak Romney will be in the General Election against Obama.

Well, I don't think I'm using the language of the Left. I'm using the language of classic American populism.

Is that actually better? Is populism what we are pushing these days?

Newt needs to be careful, if we use the new standard for quoting that campaigns are using against Romney, this quote of his will get him two ways:

Way 1: "Well, I don't think" -- (narrator) "What does Newt have against thinking? He certainly wasn't thinking when he sat on the couch with Pelosi. And he wasn't thinking when he praised John Kerry and sided with him against Jim DeMint on Global Warming. He could not have been thinking when he took millions from Freddie and Fannie. And what was he thinking when he attacked Paul Ryan and the House Tea Party for "right-wing socialism"?

Way 2: "I'm using the language of the Left. I'm using the language of classic American populism."

Of course, when you have to argue that you are NOT doing something, it often means you are.

Hmmmm, interesting choice of words...

NYT Goes Label-Crazy on 'Conservatives' in 2012, But in 2008 Dems Were Only 'Populist'

I don’t care about Newts language of the left as much as I care about Romneys actions of the left. Actions speak louder than words. It sure has cheesed me to hear Becks constant anti Newt slant, and now Rush.

Seems Rush has waited to see which candidate will rise to the top and then tepidly back him so he can say he picked the winner. All the while harping on the GOP establishment where Rush seems to keep a summer cottage.

In a Newtster vs Rush contest, I’ll pick Rush by 100 points.

Give it up, Newt...you had your chance.

Of course, I’ll reluctantly vote for Newt.

I’ll nevah vote for the RINOmneybot.

I support Newt, and he is blowing it with this left wing talk.

I said so in the debate thread when he first uttered it, and I'll say it now.

I'm all for going after Romney, but not while degrading Capitalism to do it.

I posted earlier today that Newt and those using this argument sound like they’re in the “99%”, and I expect it’s going to work just about as well for them.

Good ole unpredictable Noot...

I agree with Rush, the post and the poster. I haven’t supported anyone so far, but if my caucus was held today I’d vote for Newt.

Silly arguments that do not make sense, now this is the language of the left. American populism has always been a conservative concept. It is in the south anyway. Go Newt, tear his heart out.

If Newt has jumped the shark, a fair number of Freepers are on the trip. 60% of those polled, in fact. Wow.

This is worse then when we settled for McCain in 2008. At least then there were already enough elections that it was clear we had no choice. Now we seem to be going willingly. In a race with 4 solid conservatives, to end up with Newt is like winning the booby prize.
