Mayor Makes Good On Bronco Bet, “Tebows”

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Is Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl getting caught up in the Internet craze inspired by Denver Broncos’ Quarterback Tim Tebow? No, he’s just making good on a bet.

Prior to the Steelers’ season ending overtime loss to the Broncos on Sunday, Ravenstahl made a friendly playoff wager with his counterpart in Denver, Mayor Michael Hancock.

As part of the deal, Ravenstahl agreed to don a Broncos jersey and strike the infamous prayerful pose for a picture.

Since the Broncos bested the black and gold, Ravenstahl made good on the bet by taking a knee in Roberto Clemente Memorial Park on the North Shore this morning.

“This is not something I ever thought I’d have to do, and it’s certainly not something I’m looking forward to,” Mayor Ravenstahl said in a statement. “However, we’re good sports here in Pittsburgh and I want to congratulate Denver on a great win.”

Had Sunday’s outcome been different and Pittsburgh won, Hancock would have had to don a Steelers jersey and wave the Terrible Towel at a public event.

If I know Pittsburgh, I would say this guy’s re-election, and possibly life, are in serious jeopardy.

I caught that too - this is journalism? I can buy famous ("known about by many people") but infamous has a more odious definition ("well known for some bad quality or deed / wicked or abominable")!

Either this reporter + copy editor + editor + publisher is expressing a definite opinion or they never cracked a dictionary. In short, stink, stank & stunk!

Yeah I posted this on the other thread. I think the pic is hilarious. Shows how much "Tebowing" is getting around :-)

No doubt the ACLU is already preparing a separation of church and state suit.

Paying off a friendly bet with Denver’s mayor.
Good for him. That probably hurt.

Awesome for Denver though....

Would love to see someone in N.E. doing something similar in a week...perhaps even less likely though to be honest. We’ll see. Great game.

I live in Pittsburgh and he is safe. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the liberal rag, endorsed the Republican candidate for mayor last time and this goof still won.
He got a D by his name....he is untouchable.

"This is not something I ever thought I’d have to do, and it’s certainly not something I’m looking forward to,”

Unbelievably ignorant thing to say. Also, the Denver mayor should never have agreed to something so low class. To them it's all a joke. There will come a time when EVERY knee shall bow.

I'm a long time Bronco season ticket holder, I've also spent a fair amount of time in Pittsburgh ... it's a great town. This is all in good fun ... you are reading way too much into this ... relax.

OK - I said it on FB and I’ll say it here - although I was and always be a Packers fan, I very much admired the TRUE Steelers - Mike Webster, Rocky Bleier, Jack Lambert, “Mean” Joe Greene, Chuck Noll, Terry Bradshaw.... I worked for a Pittsburgh based company and learned how classless many Pittsburgh sports fans truly are. I remember Tommy Maddox playing his GUTS out for the pre Roethlisberger Steelers and having a bad game or two that wasn’t entirely his fault. Steelers fans VANDALIZED his home and THRTEATENED his children in their school. THERE’S Pittsburgh class for you. The Mayor, I must admit, was a good sport and didn’t weasel out of his bet. Tim Tebow is a Christian and hugely honorable - I am not as good a Christian because I hold grudges - Big Ben the rapist? Yeah - THERE’S an example for kids to look up to. Godspeed, Tebow!

Infamous pose?

Same here, to secular humanist the thought of prayer, or homage to God, is like a cross to a vampire.
