You are exactly right, that is what I have been thinking. It is the word “like” - and the way he used it. He could have just said something Americans want the freedom to find the best, or switch to the best, or something... but who likes to fire anybody, even when they deserve it?

The words were “I like being able to fire people who provide services to me”. He enjoys having the option to fire.
