As he fights for the Republican presidential nomination, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will appear with one of the South Carolina’s most prominent Democrats.

Gingrich is scheduled to speak at a homeownership rally on Thursday in front of the State House along with U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, South Carolina’s lone Democratic congressman.

Isn’t Clyburn the one who locked arms during the Tea Party rally in DC and called them racist?

He jumped the shark long ago.

Everyone is trying to find the perfect conservative to prop up. An electable one doesn't exist in this election cycle.

“These words are not fake”

Stop right there. Everything about Newt is calculated fakery. From his conversion to Catholicism, to the Contract with America, to expressed Conservatism, to the Pelosi fiasco.

He wants to be President. He will pretend to be whatever it takes to get there. If “reaching across the aisle” will get him there, that is what he will do. If pretending to be Catholic will give him cover for his past, that is what he will do. If pretending to be a Constitutional Conservative will get him across the line, then that is what he will do.

This is why he is especially unfit for the Presidency, in my opinion, and why I will never vote for him. He’s a fake.

Romney is a northeastern liberal politician. I won’t vote for him either.

I will consider anybody else, and so for me the primary process is useful at least in that regard.

As I have earlier posted about Newt’s brilliant (no sarcasm) debate performances, he’d make a great
GOP candidate, if he just wasn’t Newt.

Rush Limbaugh is talking about this and saying Newt is denying this. Who knows?

It is not the same thing. He is going to event with other people at the same event and that is all. You want it to mean something it doesn't mean in order to smear Gingrich, arguably the most conservative person in the race.

“....arguably the most conservative person in the race.”

That’s right. “Arguably” I think he’s a fake, you think he’s a conservative.

So at least we can agree that there is a legitimate argument, and that, my friend is the problem.

It should be inarguable.

ACU rating, accomplishments in office, both demonstrate he is conservative. That isn't in question by anyone that's been paying attention to politics for the last 30 some odd years. What I said was that he was arguable the MOST conservative in the race. You call him a fake, present a couple of factoids and a whole lot of mind reading to support your theory that he is a "fake". Someone else could present Newt's years of service, a conservative record that can't be matched by any other Republican candidate and you come up with some lame "it's a problem that it can be argued"? Some people will argue for or against anything just to hear themselves talk...that isn't a problem for Gingrich.

Seems to me you have something personal against against Newt. He kick your dog or something?

Is it your contention that Newt, except for the couple of factoids presented is a model Conservative?

Newt is a serial liberal compromiser. He thinks he can finesse his way out of any situation. Because of that I don’t trust any conservative principle he says he has.

If you don’t think that’s a reasonable criticism, despite what the ACU rating may say, then you’ll need a thicker skin to talk politics.

No, he did not kick my dog, but he did treat a couple of his wives like dogs, kicking them to the curb.

Newt will say, do, pretend, fake anything at all to become president - probably most politicians will, but we aren’t totally sure about the others - Newt proves it again and again.

You say it’s Ok for Newt to share a platform with a liberal democrat while campaigning. Why, given his past “issues” that you dismiss so easily? Did Newt promise you something sparkly from Tiffany’s?

Sad isn’t it. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone present so clearly the ideals that made our nation great.

Then when the tape stats flapping at the end of the reel, Newt picks up where his brain left off, and destroys it.

If I could expect him to govern as the man presenting the sound ideals, I would vote for him hands down.

Alas I can’t. Just damn...

So true, and a horrible tragedy of the greatness that could have been.

I agree. For instance, we were pleased as punch when the Gingrich Congress balanced our budget. Bush comes along and all of a sudden a balanced budget doesn’t mean jack.

I realize war efforts cost money, but they don’t cost that much money.

Point is, if he had remained a good leader, he would have been able to have positive impact on that. Instead he was ousted by his own team, or would have been if he hadn’t stepped down.
