Newt Gingrich: I Crossed The Line (Bain Criticism)

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Newt Gingrich signaled Wednesday that he believes his criticism of Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital is a mistake — and that he’s created an impression that he was echoing Democratic rhetoric.

Gingrich conceded the problem when pressed by a Rick Santorum supporter at a book-signing here Wednesday.

“I’m here to implore one thing of you. I think you’ve missed the target on the way you’re addressing Romney’s weaknesses. I want to beg you to redirect and go after his obvious disingenuous about his conservatism and lay off the corporatist versus the free market. I think it’s nuanced,” Dean Glossop, an Army Reservist from Inman, S.C., said.

I still think Newt is smart, but he lacks self control.

Sometimes Smart Just Ain’t Enough, reminds me of a song I heard once.

Perry explicitly said (to Hannity) that he is NOT against venture capitalism, just the “vulture” type that leaves employees jobless and eliminates their pensions.

Newt supports Free Enterprise..we all do but that doesn’t mean we support shady dealings among the ceo’s or leaders. Newt has nothing to apologize for...Romney should apologize for the mega million dollars worth of attacks and lies on Newt in Iowa. Romney is a shady character...socilized medicine in Mass. A mormon that protested in FAVOR of the draft during the Viet Nam war but LEFT the country to serve as a missionary? do I want him as Commander in Chief? do I want him to introduce any new form of ObamaRoma care? NO! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NEWT

Good, this should have been said. I can overlook this because I think he got a little exhausted/ crazy about being attacked which he feels was wrong to do. He is no markist so no worry there. He may have an ego which can be changed.

Oh, so he really did mean to call those of us opposed to instate tuition ‘heartless’, and his apology really didn’t mean anything.

If tax dollars are used to bailout a pension, yet the investors walk away with BIG dollars, it is NOT capitalism. It is the ongoing corrupt relationship between government and companies that is destroying our country. Said another way, it is CRONY CAPITALISM.

Thank you. The "language of the left" analysis is for preschoolers and is right up there intellectually with "guilt by assocaition."

Well, well. Looks like I'm owed an apology for the dozens of messages I got over the last few days praising Newt and telling me I was full of crap for being opposed to what was clearly leftwing anti-capitalist rhetoric.

Don't worry, I won't hold my breath, this FR...

Biggest mistake Reagan ever made.

This is the sort of thing that will cause many to vote for someone other than Newt. He’s very bright and imaginative, a brainstormer, but the most creative brainstormers usually come up with some very bad ideas as well as good ones.

Another of Newt’s brainstorms landed him on that couch with Nancy Pelosi. How long before he’d have other, equally out there brainstorms if in the White House? There definitely need to be some checks and balances on Newt and his ideas.

“we call that flip flopping in the intellectually honest world”

Now that is pure ignorance. I would hope you would be better than that. GO NEWT!

I am leaning towards Santorum, but I realize that even W beats all of these guys by a mile.

“Sadly, that shows up one of Gingrich’s major weaknesses — a thin skin.”

Come now. Newt received 45% of the negative adds in Iowa and 90% in New Hampshire. Newt was just returning the fire. GO NEWT!

Newt must of read this morning’s editorial in the WSJ. Intimidation by the MSM! MF Global is good, too.

Lol @ people who conflate ‘capitalism’ with ‘Bain Capital’.

With defenders like this, no wonder capitalism is losing the war of ideas.

Newt has done more irreparable harm to the hard-enough-job of convincing the stupids who vote that capitalism is bad, than any dem could. That alone should be enough to rule out any hope of a presidential run for him. A man with his vindictiveness and bitterness, and who cannot control his anger in the public forum has no business running the country. Thanks Newt.

This is exactly why the powers that be may not, in fact, be wanting a conservative to win. Candidates like this never will.

I wonder if Perry is going to do any more “night patrols” with Newt? Winners Romney, Santorum; Losers Newt, Perry. But Perry might be able to turn this into a win if he plays it right. Big if. Paul gets points for being consistent and right.
