House Speaker John Boehner, hoping to spare fellow Republicans a second embarrassing defeat over payroll tax cuts, is prepared to navigate around rebellious Tea Party-aligned lawmakers to get a deal, according to congressional aides.

Republicans in the House of Representatives got a public drubbing from critics within and outside the party in December for initially refusing to approve a Senate plan to extend the tax break for 160 million Americans through February.

Hold on there Hoss ~ this is PROPAGANDA. Boehner, et al, were holding out for a full 12 months extension. The Democrats wanted just 2 months.

I'd expect Boehner, et al, to go back in there for the whole enchilada.

Boehner needs to step down, although I don't take Reuters as a final source.

They should never have agreed to the payroll tax reduction in the first place. It is just another stimulus package using borrowed money and SS as a conduit to distribute the money.

Agreed!

If it comes from Reuters it’s got to be propaganda....You know they want us fighting amongst ourselves by spreading these lies...how about we see what happens before we jump on soap boxes people...

Standard fare for GOP "leaders" who cannot see the liberal agenda past tomorrow. Once the Social Security system is stripped of this money for another year, the next step will be for the libdems to "offset" the loss by campaigning for a surcharge on companies (rich industry which can easier afford it). Once the sham of a "shared contribution" is destroyed, libdems will continue to shift the payment responsibility off of individuals and onto business.

Once SS withholding removed from individuals, there will be nobody left to resist tax increases designed to "stabilize" the Social Security system.

Boehner is incompetent, that’s what.

I stand by for someone to prove me wrong. He’s screwed up every single thing he’s tried against the Dems and Obama.

“Once SS withholding removed from individuals, there will be nobody left to resist tax increases designed to “stabilize” the Social Security system. “

If that happens, there will be wage and salary cuts, and the employers will get the blame.

The last I heard is Boehner will be attempting to extend the payroll exemption for the remaining year. I hear no change. I think this is a rat trying to stir things up. I’m not the biggest fan of Boehner but we have to wait and see.

Boehner functions best when he just goes along to get along. He’s no conservative warrior. If he could just get that darn Tea Party to STFU he could get back to the golf course and work on his tan in peace.

Many Tea Party-aligned lawmakers in the House are bitter that Boehner ultimately caved to pressure and agreed to the two-month extension in December. When Boehner informed his caucus of his decision in a conference telephone call, rank-and-file members' phone lines were muted in an effort to quell dissent .

And this is how the GOP-E has decided to deal with the TEA Party.

The GOP-E can go to hell!

“He’s screwed up every single thing he’s tried against the Dems and Obama.”

I think he is compromised at some level, and that they own him. Something about the body language at that disgusting golf game they enjoyed together.

That’s what they want you to say. Go off an form a third party. We all know what their record of success is. No, work with your local Tea Party to get more conservatives elected to Congress. In the event Romney is elected, they will be needed to “lead” him in the right direction.
